Incoming Comic: THE TRIAL OF MAGNETO
In a post sent to Twitter on Friday, May 7th, 2021, the official Marvel Entertainment account announced The Trial of Magneto, a comic that begins in August 2021. The teaser featured art depicting the infamous mutant supervillain by legendary Marvel Comics artist John Romita Jr.

According to Marvel, we’ll be getting more details about the upcoming series next week, so you’ll just have to stay tuned, Marvel Blog True Believers! In the meantime, here’s some context to help better understand why this trial is such a big deal!
A Tale of Two Mutants
Much of the conflict in the X-Men series has been driven by the philosophical conflict between Charles Xavier, aka Professor X, and Max Eisenhardt, aka Erik Magnus, aka Erik Lehnsherr, aka Magneto.

While mutants in the 616 face open and hostile discrimination, the two patriarchs have taken different approaches to dealing with that reality: while Xavier works to improve the public’s perception of mutants through the X-Men superhero team, Magneto is unapologetic in attempting to force the world to give mutants the respect they deserve.
As a Jewish survivor of the Nazi concentration camps, Magneto has become a fierce protector of his people’s rights. But for Magneto, what is often a noble pursuit, sometimes turns more sinister as he attempts to take over the world at large to secure rights for mutantkind.
More recently in the Marvel Comics universe, the mutants have achieved a kind of utopia on the living island of Krakoa. Shepherded by Xavier, a new era of peace, prosperity, and protection has arrived for mutantkind in the 616… but in this brave new world, how should they deal with the past criminal actions of Magneto? And, how can you judge those concerns against the good he has done?
