“It blew my mind when I learned this special was being put together. Something that not too long ago seemed a wild dream is finally happening! I think this is one of those history-making touchstones for LGBTQ+ representation in Marvel, one of those moments that sets the bar higher and starts a lasting paradigm shift, and I’m just grateful to be lucky enough to be asked to contribute to it,” artist Luciano Vecchio previously said.

This Pride issue is excellent news because it includes many of my favorite characters, like Koi Boi, who was first introduced in The Unbeatable Squirrel-Girl #2 (2015) by Ryan North, Erica Henderson, Rico Renzi, and Clayton Cowles.

And, it includes Sera, who was first introduced in Angela: Asgard’s Assassin #1 (2014) by Kieron Gillen, Phil Jimenez, Tom Palmer, Romulo Farjardo Jr., and Cowles.

In addition to writing and illustrating the introduction, Vecchio also designed Somnus, a new queer character who will be introduced in the issue, as well as created a variant cover featuring Somnus based on the Marvel 25th Anniversary series of covers released in 1985.

An Anthology Comic
The comics in the Marvel’s Voices series are anthology comics, which mean that they include several different standalone stories, each with a different creative team. One of the best things about anthology comics is that they give you a chance to sample a bunch of different kinds of stories by a number of different creators.

Many of the stories included in Marvel’s Voices: Pride #1 will feature different tones and styles – in other words, this preview of the introduction is just the first step in a long, exciting journey, Marvel Blog True Believers!
