New Details Revealed About Designing Manhattan Restaurant!
Guests will be able to enter the Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel at Disneyland Paris for the first time since the hotel was redesigned as a dedication to Marvel’s greatest heroes, beginning on June 21st, 2021. The hotel celebrates Marvel Comics by foregrounding two of the most important parts of the universe: New York City and the work of tireless comics artists (especially at the impressive Manhattan Restaurant)!
Manhattan Restaurant
One of the amenities at Disney’s Hotel New York is the Manhattan Restaurant, where guests can marvel at the chandelier made of hand blown crystal. Depending on how you look at it, the special chandelier either evokes the shape, material, and color of the realm of Asgard or alludes to an upside down New York City Skyline.
Disney Parks Blog spoke Sylvie Massara, Art Director at Walt Disney Imagineering Paris – Design & Show Quality, and Thomas Muller, Scenographer, to learn about the chandelier’s design, an idea that came out of the team’s desire to “wow” guests in a way that felt uniquely New York.
According to Massara, to produce this unique piece of décor, Disney Imagineering engaged in an extensive search to find a vendor capable of producing the chandelier to their specifications:
We partnered with Lasvit, a vendor that assigned a dedicated designer to the project, and we were on the same wavelength from the start. Each component was glass-blown traditionally in Bohemian crystal glass. We played with the champagne, amber and light crystal colors. In addition, each component is silver-plated from the inside with pure silver. Some elements are twisted or shaped as trapezes of various sizes in order to epitomize inverted New York skyscrapers. There are more than 225 glass pieces in this four-meter-tall chandelier that took a year to create.
In re-designing Disney’s Hotel New York, the team faced many challenges integrating the out-of-the-norm chandelier into the existing structure.
A Universe of Art, Beyond Manhattan Restaurant
The hotel boasts a collection of original Marvel artwork that totals more than 350 pieces, including 50 pieces that were produced exclusively for this undertaking.
Featuring the efforts of more than 110 different artists from Europe and around the globe, you can expect to see Marvel art that celebrates both the movies and the comics when the hotel opens in June (and we don’t just mean on the walls).
Perhaps one of the most exciting elements of the collection will be a permanent exhibit dedicated to Jack Kirby, featuring 21 of the comic book covers produced by the “King of Comics.”
Every Which Way is Marvel
However, it isn’t just the art that you can expect to see when you visit Disney’s Hotel New York: thanks to the “360-degree approach,” you can expect to be fully immersed in the Marvel storytelling when you visit, including opportunities like a Heroic Selfie Spot with Spider-Man, a host of Marvel Photo Stations to post for exclusive photos, and the chance to make your own comics in the Marvel Design Studio creative space.
Plus, if you’re training to be a superhero yourself, you’ll want to take advantage of the Hero Training Zone, an outdoor 420-square-meter field, and the Metro Pool, which features both indoor and outdoor facilities.
This is only scratching the surface of the Marvelous opportunities at Disney’s Hotel New York!
At the hotel, there’s also unique bar and restaurant concepts that will put you right in the middle of the Avenger’s home territory… and in addition to 90 Executive rooms and 471 Superior rooms, there’s also 25 suites specifically dedicated to the biggest stars of the Marvel Universe.
