REVIEW: Mutant Madness in SHANG-CHI #3!
In Shang-Chi #3 by Gene Luen Yang, Dike Ruan, Tríona Farrell, and Travis Lanham, with a main cover by Leinil Francis Yu and Sunny Gho, we get more information on how Shang-Chi is going to use the resources left behind by his supervillain father to build the world he wants to live in, and we learn some of the Shang-Chi family secrets.
Shang-Chi #3
The issue begins in Ireland, where we get some very cool pages that show us a dragon (that looks a lot like the Loch Ness monster if you ask me)!
The setup in Shang-Chi vs. The Marvel Universe #3 leads to Shang-Chi and his siblings traveling across the pond to the British Isles from their new home base in New York City, New York.
There, they encounter both Zhilan, Shang-Chi’s half-sister, and a mutant, who is best known for being gruff (as well as for his love of reading).
In other words, they also encounter Wolverine! And we learn he is on the Shang-Chi family trail because Zhilan is a mutant! Ultimately, Zhilan must decide if she will travel back to New York with Shang-Chi or head over to Krakoa with Logan…
Possible Implications
But this does make us wonder about one of the scenes in the Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings trailer! In that trailer, we saw footage of a character who had a similar costume as Zhilan, and just like Zhilan, she is seen using the same fighting style and playing a flute…
Could Shang-Chi bring us the long-awaited debut of mutants in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? The events of the MCU are not always perfectly matched to those in Marvel Comics continuity, but the publisher has a history of updating their comic book incarnations to better match their big-screen counterparts.
Plus, considering the fact that we’ve already seen Madripoor in Captain America and the Winter Soldier, maybe this possibility is not so far-fetched!

While the main cover is amazing, I couldn’t help but pick up the Peach Momoko Anime Variant cover.
