ARF ARF ARF: Pizza Dog Arrives on Hawkeye #1 Variant
Do you smell greasy cheese and pepperoni, Marvel Blog True Believers? Well, get used to it, because when the first two episodes of Hawkeye arrive for streaming on Disney+ beginning on Wednesday, November 24th, 2021, they’ll be bringing along one of my very favorite characters from the panels of Marvel Comics: Pizza Dog! Better yet, we can tell that we’ve got a Pizza Dog celebration in store: there’s no way the character isn’t Hawkeye’s break-out star… and he’s getting a variant cover to prove it!

Hawkeye #1
The new five-issue Hawkeye: Kate Bishop series will follow the better Hawkeye as she returns to New York City after spending the past few years in Southern California (see: the 2016 run of Hawkeye by Kelly Thompson, Leonardo Romero, Julian Totino Tedesco, et al).

The new series will be by Marieke Ninkamp and Enid Balám, with a main cover by Jahnoy Lindsay.
While the main cover by Lindsay does include Pizza Dog, he gets a starring role on this variant by Tony Fleecs!

In addition to getting a slice of pizza, Pizza Dog’s variant cover includes a special border that includes the legend, “ARF ARF ARF”! This calls to mind the cover for Hawkeye #11 by David Aja, Matt Fraction, and Matt Hollingsworth, a special issue presented from the perspective of Pizza Dog, which had “RUFF RUFF RUFF” in the same location on the cover.

In the upcoming Hawkeye series on Disney+, Pizza Dog will be played by Jolt the Golden Retriever. To pass the time as you wait for the character to arrive for streaming, you can consider checking out the canine’s frequently-updated Instagram account!
