X-Men ’97 Writers Unveil Number of Episodes and Potential Release Date Window
The revival of the highly acclaimed X-Men: The Animated Series is well underway! Some information regarding the number of episodes and the potential release date window for the series have been revealed!
YouTuber Justin Underwood interviewed two of the writers from the original show, Eric and Julia Lewald, who revealed the episode count and a release window of mid-2023!
X-Men: The Animated Series was a critically acclaimed and greatly beloved animated adaptation of the X-Men comics. Making its debut in 1992, the designs mirrored Jim Lee’s comic run portrayal of the team. The series dealt with a variety of issues related to society, including subjects such as divorce, religion, and persecution against others.
Additionally, many of the famous storylines told in the comics were adapted into the show. Events from comic storylines such as Days of Future Past, The Weapon X storyline, The Phoenix Saga, and many more comic events have been adapted into episodes of the animated series.
The show was so popular that 20th Century Fox took notice, prompting them to purchase the X-Men film rights and create the X-Men films that began in 2000.
Original Writers Shed Details on X-Men ’97
Justin Underwood recently interviewed two of the original show’s writers, Eric and Julia Lewald, and several important pieces of information were revealed! The Lewalds revealed that the show will have around 10 episodes, and will be connected to the original series as a sort of sequel. The series will take place at some point after the last episode of the initial series.
Additional information included the window for the release of the series on Disney+, which will likely be in mid-2023. Initial reports had indicated a 2023 window of release but had not specified when in 2023. While the exact date is yet to be revealed, this information puts gives a little more knowledge regarding a potential release window.
The 2023 slated release window means that we will have to wait almost an entire year before seeing this revival. The cast for X-Men ’97 has already been revealed, with many of the fan-favorite voice actors of the original series returning, including Cal Dodd who voiced Wolverine!
As a longtime fan of the series, I am beyond excited to see the series when it releases next year. Growing up with the show brings a great deal of nostalgia, and memories of the show bring back a certain fondness. Surely many others that grew up with the show will tune in and check out the next part in the X-Men animated saga!
