Marvel Announces Brand New Multiversal Jessica Jones Series, ‘The Variants’
An underrated hero of Marvel’s vast pantheon, Jessica Jones is getting her very own multiversal adventure story, as Marvel announces The Variants.
Marvel’s best detective is returning to the comics as Jessica Jones has found a brand new series to explore her fantastic character.
The character experienced newfound fame and exposure with her self-titled Netflix series in which Krysten Ritter portrayed the eponymous character, and brought the super-powered private eye to the MCU for the very first time.
Now, Jessica Jones will be the star of her very own five-issue limited series titled The Variants, with a release date set for this June, as first reported by ComicBook.com.
Coming from the creative duo of writer Gail Simone and artist Phil Noto, there is still so much unknown about the impending release, with us fingering from Noto’s fantastic cover that the series will focus on multiversal variants of Jessica Jones.
Included among the lineup of variant versions of the character is the retired superhero persona of Jessica Jones; Jewel.
Marvel.com first announced the upcoming limited series, noting that the private investigators will, “come face-to-face with several versions of herself,” after taking up a case that doesn’t seem out of the ordinary; until it ultimately leads her to, “question everything she thought she knew about her life and choices.”
The official release of the series posted the synopsis that reads, “What would it really be like to meet an alternate version of yourself, another you who made different choices and lived a completely different life as a result? That’s the question facing Jessica Jones”
Simone, commenting on the announcement, stated, “When Tom Brevoort offered me this project, I went and re-read all the Jessica stories, from the classic, groundbreaking [Brian Michael] Bendis stories to the more recent and fantastically good Kelly Thompson stories (That you definitely should read!)”
“They’re just exciting, compelling reads,” Simone continued, “There isn’t another comics character like her. That was immensely exciting.”
We cannot wait to see what the duo of Simone and Noto do with their very own Jessica Jones limited series, but we know that Simone remains one of the most talented writers in the comic book industry, and we cannot wait to see what she brings to life in this latest endeavor.
