Ryan Reynolds Tell Andrew Garfield He Cried During ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’
While Avengers: Endgame was the biggest cinematic event in Marvel history, for fans of a certain age, Spider-Man: No Way Home had the most emotional impact.
The third installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man franchise, No Way Home used the magic of the multiverse to bring together Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.
For fans of the character, the film was the climax of almost 20 years of storytelling.
‘No Way Home’ Made Ryan Reynolds Cry
In a recent conversation with Garfield, Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds revealed that he cried when watching No Way Home.
“I love how you did this in Spider-Man: No Way Home: You’re weaving DNA strands of a cultural conversation along with the narrative of the movie. You guys did it in such a way that I burst into tears,” he revealed.
“One of the best feelings I’ve ever had is sitting in Hall H at Comic-Con and watching Wesley Snipes cross the frame and people are crying. They realize in an instant that they desperately missed this person, but they didn’t know they missed him.”
The magic of Spider-Man: No Way Home was Marvel’s ability to advance the stories of both Maguire and Garfield’s Spider-Men without dedicating the entire film to them.
The Film Was An Emotional Experience For Garfield
Looking back, Garfield admitted that it was an emotional experience.
I’m so grateful for it, in retrospect. And even during, I was like, “Yeah, this is soul work,” he explained.
“One of the first photos of me as a 3-year-old is in a Spider-Man costume that my mother made out of felt. And I’m like, ‘oh my God, this person, this character, it means so [freaking] much to me.”
Reynolds agreed, playfully asserting that “in all seriousness, you did sort of steal the movie.”
“And if I were Tom, I’d be angry,” he quipped after Garfield demurred.
Will We See Garfield Return to the MCU?
With Secret Wars on the horizon, the multiversal door seems wide open for Garfield and Macguire to return to the MCU.
Perhaps, then, we will get the opportunity to see Reynolds and Garfield suit up together.
