Anthony Mackie Reveals How Long He Will Continue to Play Captain America
While Anthony Mackie will make his big screen debut as Captain America in the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World, the actor is a Marvel veteran.
After originating the role of Sam Wilson in Captain America: The Winter Solider, Mackie suited up again for Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ant-Man, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.
As he embarks on a new chapter of his Marvel journey, however, he is showing no signs of slowing down.
How Long Will Mackie Play Captain America?
In a recent interview with Esquire, Mackie was asked how long he will continue to play Sam Wilson.
“I give it a solid 10 years,” Mackie said before speculating on what films he could appear in. “You have the two Avengers movies, you have hopefully another Captain America, and then random plug-and-plays: Oh, Spider-Man! Oh, Fantastic Four! What are you doing here?”
Mackie enjoys his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). He admits, however, that the role probably has a shelf life.
“I mean, I don’t want to be a 60-year-old Captain America,” he said.
When Will Mackie Suit Up Again?
While Sam Wilson’s future beyond Captain America: Brave New World remains a mystery, it sounds like Marvel fans have every reason to expect that they will see Mackie suit up again.
We should see Cap appear in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, it also sounds like Mackie has his sights set on another solo adventure. With Captain America: Brave New World trending towards a strong opening, the franchise looks to be in good hands.
