MarvelBlog News for September 28th, 2025
This week in MarvelBlog News: Beyond the Spider-Verse gets a new release date while Spider-Man suffers a concussion.
Oh, and that movie you’re anxiously anticipating has a couple of updates, too. So, let’s get started!
The Spider-Man Updates

Never let it be said that Tom Holland doesn’t suffer for his art.
The actor suffered a concussion while filming an action scene for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

I’m going to do the unthinkable here and rely on the reporting of The Sun. Here’s the quote:
“A line snapped on a pull ring, and he got a bump on his bonce.

“Filming was supposed to start again in London on Thursday, but for now the production team have been told to stand down for two weeks.
“Tom has been taking it easy as he had a suspected concussion, and no one wants him to rush back to set.”

That’s an insider willing to go on record (anonymously) with the British tabloid.
As such, I don’t necessarily trust every word of this report, but the injury specifics are likely in the ballpark.

The good news is that the injury is considered minor as opposed to, say, what happened to Letitia Wright.
You may recall that the actress known for portraying Shuri suffered an accident while filming Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
She broke her shoulder in addition to suffering a concussion, and her injury occurred at an awkward time.
With pandemic protocols in place, Wright demonstrated reluctance in returning to the set.

This incident caused a number of production delays with the Black Panther sequel.
By all accounts, Holland will only be out a week, most of which is over by the time you read this, and he already says he’s feeling better.

So, this conversation focuses more on comic book movies possibly asking too much of actors.
Holland is fine and will be back to filming by the end of this week. He must be protected, though.

In the unlikely event Holland suffers a second concussion, THAT would be a problem and delay the film significantly.
More Spider-Man News

Sony set up a showdown that almost certainly won’t happen in 2027.
I say this because the studio changed the release date of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
The film had been scheduled for June 25th, 2027. Now, Sony has moved it up to June 18th, 2027.
Why is that a big deal? Well, Disney currently shows a release date of June 18th for Gatto.

You may not have heard of that project, but it’s an animated film from the masters of the format.
Disney takes its cartoons seriously and certainly doesn’t want competition from Sony.

Source: Sony Pictures
That’s a problem since Sony is releasing a film starring a Disney character in Spider-Man.
For this reason, either Sony knows that Gatto won’t maintain its release date, or something’s about to happen.

Disney absolutely will pressure Sony to take another date, but it was still a strangely aggro move by Sony.
Then again, given the previous Spider-Verse delays, there’s no guarantee the film is ready in June 2027 anyway.
No More She-Hulk?

Now, let’s talk about the elephant in the living room, which happens to involve She-Hulk.
For a while now, we’ve all suspected that we weren’t getting season two of She-Hulk.

Source: Marvel Studios
That’s not a huge logical leap since the first season ended three years ago as of October 13th.
In the interim, while everyone has expressed satisfaction with season one, we haven’t heard much about a sequel.

Source: Marvel Studios
That’s a bit surprising since A) She-Hulk performed well and B) it had good word-of-mouth.
Yes, review bombing occurred, but it’s at 67 on Metacritic and 80 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

Those numbers justify a second season, as does its Nielsen streaming performance.
People involved with the project have clearly lost hope with a second season.

Just as importantly, the star of the show has lost faith in Disney, as we learned last week.
Look, I’m just gonna assume you heard about the Jimmy Kimmel thing, so I’m not getting into it.

However, as part of the protest of Disney’s handling of the matter, many people canceled Disney+.
Once source suggested that one million people canceled, although they extrapolated their data.

So, I’m not 100 percent willing to believe that statement at face value. Still, we all know it happened.
Many people on social media posted proof of their subscription cancellations.

The most surprising person championing the idea was Tatiana Maslany, the star of… She-Hulk.
Yeah, I think it’s fair to say that the instant she did that, the odds of a season two of She-Hulk went down the drain.

Source: Marvel Studios
If it does happen, my money’s on recasting. You never know, though.
After all, Scarlett Johansson is working with Disney again after some previous unpleasantness.

Still, Maslany’s comments were…unexpected.
Marvel Miscellany
Let’s start with the great news. Avengers: Doomsday has finished filming!
The project has reportedly gone off without a hitch, and on-set reviews of Robert Downey Jr. are glowing.
We’ve also tracked rumors of Florence Pugh appearing Doomsday AND Brand New Day, which would be intriguing.
Circling back to the Spider-Man movie, actor Marvin Jones III will portray Tombstone.

Photo: The Mad Titan Project
That’s interesting for a couple of reasons, starting with the fact that Jones has already played the role.
The actor voiced Tombstone in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and will do so again in Beyond the Spider-Verse.
More intriguingly, Sony had planned Jones’s Tombstone as one of the heavies in El Muerto.
That’s the Sony Spider-Man spinoff movie that never happened because Bad Bunny sobered up.

Once he realized it was a terrible idea, the project collapsed, thereby saving it the same fate as Morbius and Madame Web.
Finally and most importantly, Marvel Zombies is now available on Disney+. You should be watching it!
I’m almost done with a side project. After that, I’ll recap it, along with Ironheart, which I swear I’ve started.
Have a great week, everybody!
