MarvelBlog News for October 26th, 2025
This week in MarvelBlog News, we debate whether Jeremy Renner just confessed.
Is the old Hawkeye in Avengers: Doomsday? Let’s discuss.
Welcome to Lying Season

Brie Larson recently appeared at a Q&A session.
As part of the conversation, someone asked the Captain Marvel actress whether we’d see her again.

That’s a recurring, almost Groundhog Day-esque question for cast members of the MCU.
Since Avengers: Endgame closed the book on the MCU’s first set of stories, people have wondered.

When will Marvel get the band back together again? And the answer is Avengers: Doomsday.
Many actors will appear in that film and/or its sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars.

Not that long ago, Marvel posted a many-hour livestream that confirmed some cast members.
Since then, the ones who weren’t confirmed have faced renewed intrigue about their returns.

To her credit, Larson answered the question better than anyone else I’ve seen.
She said, “Thank you for asking, and you know I can’t answer.” Then, she smiled and gave a thumbs-up.

These are the hoops that the actors behind the Avengers must jump through during every interview.
Now, Jeremy Renner has thrown a curveball during his media appearances for Mayor of Kingstown.

The Paramount series will air its fourth season soon and third since Renner’s near-fatal injury.
As popular as Mayor of Kingstown is, it’s small potatoes compared to Renner’s role as Hawkeye.

To a larger point, people really want Renner back as Hawkeye after what happened to Renner.
So, the demand for Renner’s return to the MCU is as high as it is for anyone, even Robert Downey Jr.
More Intrigue from Pepper Potts

The flip side of all this curiosity is that some MCU cast members are having fun with it.
As such, we never really know whether someone is being honest or not.

For example, Gwyneth Paltrow recently spoke a Brown University, where her son is attending.
As part of this conversation, Pepper Potts’ future in the MCU came up, which is just hysterical to me.

You would expect Ivy League students to have bigger questions for a successful entrepreneur.
They don’t. Or maybe they do. It’s a bit unclear, as Paltrow may have offered this one unrequested.

Opinions vary on how the subject was broached, but the ever-unusual Paltrow said the following:
“I might be in another Marvel movie.” She also “hinted at future projects.”

Since Paltrow didn’t even know she was in a Spider-Man movie not that long ago, this could mean anything.
While incredibly successful, the actress is notably flighty, which makes her an unreliable narrator.

Still, if Robert Downey Jr. is returning to the MCU, it only makes sense that Paltrow will as well.
After all, the emotional impact of Doom looking like Tony Stark hits home the most through her.

So, while I don’t necessarily believe Paltrow in general, I’ve always expected her character to return.
And I must keep that in mind while parsing through Renner’s words, which seem intentionally debatable.
What Renner Said

“I think Hawkeye started retired… but he’s always pulled out of retirement, you know.
“I think he’s a family man; you always know where his allegiance lies, and he’s always come out of retirement, man.

“Until he’s killed, he’s always gonna be working.”
Then, the actor added something else that has set Marvel’s social media fandom ablaze:

“It was good to see everybody, and we have a forever bond. Whether we’re filming or not, we’re always connected.”
That is 100 percent the actor wanting people to think he is in Avengers: Doomsday.

Renner had previously lamented the lack of season two of Hawkeye, bitterly recounting something.
Apparently, Marvel offered him a pay cut, which he took to be a slight against his health crisis.

However, Renner has spoken on the presumed plot for Hawkeye season two.
So, that story exists already, and if Renner is in Avengers: Doomsday, hope arises anew.

At a minimum, his comments are being taken as proof that he visited the set.
If that happened, it’s logical to think he may have filmed at least a cameo, too.

So, this feels like confirmation that the original Hawkeye is in the upcoming Avengers sequels.
But that’s also what Renner wants us to think, so…

You can decide for yourself how believable any of this is.

Disney+ has accelerated the release of The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
The film arrived in theaters on July 25th. Now, it’ll join the Disney+ lineup on November 5th.

Photo: IMDB
That’s a week from Wednesday and a relatively short release pattern by recent Marvel standards.
Captain America: Brave New World had a 117-day gap from its theatrical release to its Disney+ debut.

First Steps matches the Thunderbolts* pattern of 103 days, which is nine days less than Deadpool & Wolverine.
So, we know the general range for the Marvel-to-Disney+ cycle, but Fantastic Four’s is shorter than most.

Another story is that Tom Ellis confirmed what we reported a while ago.
The actor best known for playing the titular Lucifer on Fox and Netflix was in the running for Reed Richards.

Pedro Pascal was great in the role, but Ellis has a certain charisma that’s hard to match.
Finally, the director of New Mutants recently ranted about the production of…New Mutants.

I quite liked the film, but Josh Boone apparently doesn’t. This strikes me as a “nobody to blame but yourself” scenario.
