MarvelBlog News for December 21st, 2025
This week in MarvelBlog News, we talk about that one-year countdown and what it means.
Obviously, we’ll have quite a few spoilers about a trailer you may not have seen, so please be forewarned.
HERE THERE BE SPOILERS

War of the Bounty Hunters: Boushh #1. Photo: Marvel Comics
I’m about to lead with something huuuuuge that we just learned from the new Avengers: Doomsday trailer.
If you don’t know what that is, you probably should stop reading now if you want to be surprised.

Seriously, this one’s massive, with far-reaching MCU implications.
If you want to be surprised, head to Avatar: Fire & Ash this weekend, which you should do anyway.

I really liked the film, and it’s visually breathtaking. So, watch it in IMAX if you can.
Also, you’ll get rewarded in two ways. You can watch the first six minutes of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.

Then, you can check out the new Avengers: Doomsday trailer that has the world talking.
This seems like a good time to mention that a rumor I didn’t want to believe appears to be true.

Marvel appears hellbent on releasing a single Doomsday trailer each week for a month.
That’s a way to incentivize people to watch Avatar 3 in theaters multiple times.

Photo: The Reset Era
Apparently, consumers were going to do that anyway, as exit tracking suggested 52 percent repeat viewing.
So, this whole thing strikes me as Marvel and Disney overthinking the situation.

On the plus side, presuming nobody changes their mind, we’ll have four weeks of trailers to discuss.
Given how barren Marvel news has been recently, I’ll take all the good news I can get, even when it’s ridiculous.

And now that I’ve talked this through enough, it’s time for the spoilers.
The next section is LOUSY with them, so if you’re on the fence about seeing spoilers, GET OUT!!!
COUNTDOWN COMMENCING

Okay, you’ve been warned.
The trailer shows Steve Rogers on a motorcycle heading to a farm, and the implication is clear.

Source: Marvel Studios
Steve and his lady friend, Peggy “Captain” Carter, have apparently moved away from the public eye.
Now, they live in a secluded area, presumably enjoying several of those dances they didn’t expect to have.

Photo: Marvel
But we don’t see Peggy in this teaser. No, there’s someone else in Steve’s living room.
Ladies and gentlemen, we have a super baby! Well, I’m presuming, but what else should we expect?

Steve Rogers gently cradles a baby, HIS baby, the one he’s had with the love of his life, Peggy.
I’m connecting a few dots that aren’t spelled out in the trailer, but other reporters are doing it, too.

Marvel is confirming some stuff through back channels, as this is what it wants.
The entire purpose of this first trailer is to build hype, straight down to how it ends.

Once the shot footage finishes, a splash screen appears with a countdown clock.
Since I saw Avatar on the first day, the clock actually started at 365 days and then counted down.

Presumably, next week’s clock will show 358 days, then drop to 357 days, 23 hours, and 59 minutes.
Marvel is so desperate to make Avengers: Doomsday into an event film that it’s starting the hype a year early.

When I first heard the “four different trailers” rumor, I dismissed it, but the plan is obvious now.
More about the Trailer

Source: Marvel
Marvel will show several of the main characters before ending with Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom.
In fact, the Thor trailer has already leaked online. There’s been a lot of that lately, actually.

Some people watched the Steve Rogers trailer early as well, although they mostly kept quiet.
I guess nobody wanted to ruin the surprise of a baby born to the holder of the Super Soldier Serum.

There will obviously be ramifications from that, as with the child having superheroes for parents.
The one thing to remember here is that with Rogers having traveled back in time, Peggy’s different.

Photo: Marvel Studios
She won’t have experienced all the events we saw in Agent Carter, but we do know one thing.
Old Man Rogers returns to the MCU’s present to hand his shield to Sam Wilson.

Photo: Marvel Studios
So, whatever happens in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars must lead there.
Otherwise, fans WILL riot about another logic flaw with the MCU, and I had enough of that with Quantumania.

Photo: Marvel Studios
The exciting part is that the trailer includes the words, “Steve Rogers will return.”
That feels like a tacit acknowledgement that the MCU just isn’t the same without him.

Photo: Marvel
Fans of the Marvel Secret Invasion comics may recall the frenzy that occurred at the end of an issue.
Brian Michael Bendis teased Cappy’s Shield, Thor’s hammer, and some Iron Man tech.

Photo: The Comeback
That was a hint that the band was getting back together after Civil War.

So, at one point, I thought we’d have a Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer to discuss as well.
And we kinda do, just not for the reasons you might expect. It’s not supposed to be out yet.

Photo: Marvel
Someone broke an NDA and leaked the trailer online before Sony went after them HARD.
That person doesn’t even know the legal trouble they’re in, although they’ll figure it out soon enough.

Photo: PEOPLE
Still, the fact that such a trailer exists is significant. It hints that Sony will publish it soon.
Whereas I suspect Avengers: Endgame won’t get anything until January, Sony may go faster.

Photo: Vanity Fair
Since they’re not trying to sell Avatar tickets, it’s in the studio’s best interest to show off Spidey soon.
I’m not 100 percent sure that will happen, but it makes the most sense.

Source: Marvel
I’d argue that Marvel should do the same with ads during the College Football Playoffs.
Thus far, Marvel hasn’t shown any inclination to do that, though. So, go watch Avatar 3.
