MarvelBlog News for December 28th, 2025
In the final MarvelBlog News of 2025, we set the table for the critical Marvel event of 2026.
Disney is currently setting the table for the release of Avengers: Doomsday.

Last week, we got the return of one Avenger; now, we have the reappearance of another.
Still, I suspect that next week’s topic will be the one that gets tongues wagging.

Let’s start the hype train in this week’s update.
Back Where It Began

Okay, last week’s topic is no longer spoiler-ish. So, here it is:
There you go. Everyone knows the truth now, not just people who saw Avatar: Fire & Ash.
Captain America will return, but there’s a difference now.

“America’s ass” has changed to “America’s DILF” as of Avengers: Doomsday.
Steve Rogers has clearly traveled back in time and gained the only thing he wanted.

Rogers and Peggy Carter have built a life together on a secluded farm in the middle of nowhere.
Now that Rogers has saved the universe yet again, he’s savoring retirement.

As we know, that peace will be disrupted by an unexpected event: the rise of Doctor Doom.
However, Marvel hasn’t shown Doom yet, instead choosing to stretch out the teasers.

This clip is the first of four, with fans having already seen the second clip as well.
So, here come the spoilers yet again, just like last week.

If you don’t want to be spoiled, honestly, just enjoy a contented Captain America.
I’ll see you next week, as the rest of this article spoils the current trailer for week two.

More importantly, I’ll let you know what happens in either week three or week four.
And that one is a surprise, although anyone who watched the casting chair teaser knows the deal.

Anyway, you’ve been warned that the spoilers begin in 3…2…1…
HERE THERE BE SPOILERS (AGAIN)

Consider this your final warning before I start talking about the return of other Avengers.
Are you still here? Great! How has your holiday season been? Any big New Year’s plans?

Okay, that’s enough small talk. Let’s get to it!
Speaking of new parents, Thor recently became a daddy in Thor: Love & Thunder.

I’m mentioning this because not everyone saw it, which is kind of a bummer.
Russell Crowe really sold out for this role and deserves to be seen. Plus, that Hercules reveal!

Sadly, not much has happened since then, a byproduct of all the Marvel chaos transpiring recently.
Plans fall asunder based on box office receipts and Nielsen streaming ratings.

So, we never got the follow-up film of Thor and his new daughter wrecking everybody.
Remember that she’s probably stronger than him, which is a tantalizing thought for the MCU.

To a larger point, these are the new stakes at play in the MCU. Steve Rogers and Thor are parents.
Thus, they have more to lose than ever. Saving the universe is intangible; saving your child is everything.

You should hold that thought as additional information comes out about Avengers: Doomsday.
Marvel is seeding the story this way for a very specific reason, and I’m wildly optimistic about what happens next.
A Parent’s Prayer

For now, we get Thor in a moment of repose. He’s both praying and speaking to his dead father.
When your dad is Odin, that’s how it works, I guess? Anyway, here’s what Thor says:

“The war and now fate have given me something I never sought. A child. A life untouched by this all.
Lend to me the strength of the All-Fathers so that I might fight once more.

Defeat one more enemy and return home to her, not as a warrior, but as warmth.
To teach her not battle, but stillness. The kind I never knew, Please father, hear my words.”

Thor is asking for peace, and I’m pretty sure you can guess how that’s gonna go.
There’s more to the story, though. Three Avengers have always comprised the core.

Source: Marvel Studios
The first two are Captain America and Thor, with Iron Man being the third.
So, you’d presume that Robert Downey Jr. will appear in the next clip as Doom.

That’s apparently not the case. While plans can change by Thursday, the current idea is different.
What to Expect in January

To supercharge the film’s appeal, the next clip will highlight the X-Men!!! You heard me.
We’ll discuss that clip more next week. As for after that, nothing is set in stone.

However, what I’m hearing is that Marvel is weighing the option of saving Doom for later.
In that scenario, the rest of the Avengers: Doomsday characters will appear in the fourth trailer.

Then, RDJ would make his triumphant appearance as Doom during the NFL playoffs.
From a numbers perspective, that strategy makes a lot of sense.

A few million people will see Avatar: Fire & Ash in theaters this week and next.
Meanwhile, 30-50 million people will watch the various NFL playoff games.

So, this sort of slow teaser rollout makes sense from that perspective, even as it’s a risk.
Those on the fence about Marvel – which seems to be a lot of people these days – may not like all the teasers.

Still, a well-placed ad for RDJ as Doom should change everyone’s opinion.
Then, Marvel can release a Super Bowl trailer for Avengers: Doomsday that ties everything together.

I suspect that’s the full plan here, with X-Men characters elevating the excitement level this week.
Stay tuned for the early 2026 versions of MarvelBlog News to track all the changes.
