Hawkeye Season 2 Gets a Disappointing Update
Marvel fans got disappointing news last year when Jeremy Renner revealed that he had rejected an offer to reprise his role as Clint Barton in a second season of Hawkeye.
As the MCU star explained, despite his interest in suiting up again, Marvel had asked him to take a 50% pay cut for the show’s sophomore season.
Renner, naturally, demurred.

“They asked me to do Season 2, and they offered me half the money. I’m like, ‘Well, it’s going to take me twice the amount of work for half the amount of money, and eight months of my time, essentially, to do it for half the amount,’” he said.
Momentum Had Been Building
Renner’s revelation was particularly disappointing, as Marvel’s Head of Streaming, Brad Winderbaum, had previously hinted that Hawkeye could return.

With the two sides seemingly at an impasse, however, that outcome appeared unlikely.
Then, last September, Renner gave fans renewed hope when he admitted that he would love to play Hawkeye again.

“I’ll always dance with Marvel. I’ll always dance with them for sure when appropriate, when it’s rocking,” he said at Florida Supercon. “I’m happy to do season two of Hawkeye. I love that character. I think there’s so much for us to do.”
Suddenly, hope was rekindled.

While things appeared to be moving in the right direction for another season of Hawkeye, updates on the potential project have been nonexistent.
Now, we have something of another update.
The Latest Update
In a new interview with The Direct, Wonder Man showrunner Andrew Guest, who also served as a producer on Hawkeye, admitted that the original plans for Season 2 ultimately fizzled out.

“There was talk at a certain point… We did explore creatively what Season 2 of Hawkeye might be if we were able to do it. Unfortunately, the timing didn’t work out in terms of Marvel and all the various pieces that need to come together,” he said.
“But I loved working on Hawkeye, I think Renner and Hailee Steinfeld are so terrific together, and I would love to see more of those two.”

While it doesn’t sound like we’ll be seeing another season of Hawkeye anytime soon, with both Renner and Marvel seemingly open to the possibility, hope springs eternal.
