Chris Hemsworth Promises a “Different” Thor in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’
After the largely disastrous Thor: Love and Thunder, Chris Hemsworth is preparing to suit up again as the God of Thunder in Avengers: Doomsday.
As has been written about extensively, Hemsworth and Taika Waititi seemingly lost the plot during Thor’s last adventure, creating a film that leaned so far into comedy that it felt bereft of stakes.

For his part, Hemsworth later admitted that he had missed the mark.

“I got caught up in the improv and the wackiness, and I became a parody of myself,” the actor told Vanity Fair in 2024. “I didn’t stick the landing.”
Thor’s ‘Doomsday’ Return
As the countdown to Avengers: Doomsday continues, we have learned more about Thor’s state of mind as he prepares for multiversal madness.

In the third Doomsday teaser, the Asgardian prays to Odin for the strength to survive one last battle.
“Father, all my life, I have answered every call, to honor, duty, to war. But now, fate has given me something I never sought: a child. A life untouched by the storm,” he says in the clip.
“Lend me the strength of the All-Fathers, so that I may fight once more, defeat one more enemy, and return home to her, not as a warrior, but as warmth.”
This is clearly a far cry from the Thor who joked his way through Gorr the God Butcher kidnapping Asgardian children.
Hemsworth Promises a “Different” Tone
During a recent appearance on The View, Hemsworth teased that Thor’s appearance in Avengers: Doomsday will have a very different tone than his last outing.

“Yeah, you get a taste from [the teaser]. That is a different tone than, I guess, what Love & Thunder was,” he said.
“And what I loved about my time in the MCU, I was able to, every couple of films, change the tone of the character. And some people find it a bit disruptive, but for my own artistic journey and adventure, it’s been a great blessing to be able to do that.”

When asked if there was anything else he could add, Hemsworth chose his words carefully.
“This film, you see from the trailer, he’s asking for help from his father upstairs. And there’s a lot of pressure, and I can’t say much at all. Every word I’m saying, that’s one too many. The other end of the phone call saying, ‘Stop, stop, stop.’”

Fans who have been calling for the return of a more serious Thor should take heart in Hemsworth’s latest comments. It sounds like the actor will play the God of Thunder with renewed emotional weight this time around.
