Olivia Colman Joins Marvel’s Secret Invasion

Oscar winner Olivia Colman is giving up her crown for inter-dimensional scepters and super-heroic-sized phase pistols. According to Deadline, the British actress is in talks to join the forthcoming Marvel Studios series for Disney+: Secret Invasion!

In Secret Invasion, Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn are returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to reprise their roles as Nick Fury and Skrull Talos, respectively. In the series based on the crossover comic event of the same name, fans will get to see a faction of shape-shifting Skrulls who have been infiltrating Earth for years.

Fury and Talos first met in 2019’s Captain Marvel, and their friendship was once again referenced in wickedly wonderful WandaVision, the breakout streaming series for Marvel Studios. Secret Invasion will be using the events of the feature film as a starting-off point for the series.

Colman Talks MCU

Fresh off her appearance in The Father, Colman is said to be in the negotiating process with Marvel Studios and The Walt Disney Company.

For now, Marvel is keeping the plot details under wrap so we have no idea what role Colman might play in the series, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have some educated guesses! At the top of our list, Abigail Brand, Agent of S.W.O.R.D., an offshoot of S.H.I.E.L.D. that deals with extraterrestrial threats.

While little is known about Brand in Marvel Comics, she’s an integral part of Earth’s fighting force at the start of the Secret Invasion event, making her the perfect fit for the series! A Fury loyalist, she’s tied with multiple characters we’ve already seen in the Mighty Marvel Multiverse: Maria Hill, Dum Dum Dugan, Captain Marvel, Alpha Flight, Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, and more!

Marvel’s Secret Cast

Marvel boss Kevin Feige confirmed in an interview with Collider that the first season of Secret Invasion will consist of six episodes that started filming in April in Los Angeles, California. Next up, the production is moving to the U.K. and Europe for the next round of filming, according to a Tweet from DiscussingFilm.

The Disney+ ‘SECRET INVASION’ series will begin filming this Fall in the U.K. and Europe.

“I mean, we’re interested in the political paranoia aspect of Secret Invasion and really showcasing the stars with Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn, two amazing actors that you want to have in any series, and we’re very lucky to have them for that,” said Feige.

Joining Jackson, Mendelsohn, and Colman, Marvel previously announced that Kingsley Ben-Adir is part of the Secret Invasion cast, possibly as the series villain. What roles do you think Ben-Adir and Colman are playing in the upcoming series? Let us know in the comments!
