Marvel and ESPN Team-Up for Avengers NBA Game
We know our Marvel Blog True Believers appreciate the benefits of a good team-up. Whether it’s Wanda and Vision, the Falcon and the Winter Soldier, or Loki and Thor or Loki and Mobius M. Mobius, there’s nothing better than a double feature. Now, there’s a brand-new team-up to get excited about: Marvel Entertainment and ESPN are joining forces to bring you a NBA Game that features a special Avengers story component on Monday, May 3rd, 2021!
Move Over, Space Jam!
The National Basketball League game between the New Orleans Pelicans and the Golden State Warriors will be broadcast as normal on ESPN. However, fans tuning into the game on ESPN 2 will get to enjoy an original Marvel story that will incorporate fan-favorite characters like Black Panther, Iron Man, and Captain Marvel into the game, as the Avengers search for new candidates to help them stave off an invading army!

To help bring this exciting event to life, Angélique Roché, the host of the Marvel Voices podcast, will provide superhero analysis alongside the basketball-focused commentary being provided by Ryan Ruocco and Richard Jefferson.
Marvel Hero Points
The event’s full title will be the “NBA Special Edition Presented by State Farm: Marvel’s Arena of Heroes,” and it will incorporate a host of different storytelling techniques, including 3D character models, customized graphics, and unique animation packages.
During the course of the Marvel’s Arena of Heroes event, Black Panther and Iron Man will unveil a plan to expand the ranks of the Avengers, and three players from each team will be identified as potential teammates. Over the course of the game, these six players will be awarded “Marvel Hero Points,” and the player with the most points at the conclusion will be declared the first Marvel “Champion” (hmm… perhaps they’ll later be recruited for some kind of “Contest” or “Draft Season”.)
