If you’re confused as to why these images seem to show very familiar faces in very unfamiliar situations, never fear: Marvel Blog has you covered!

The What If…? stories have a long tradition at Marvel Comics.
What If…? issues take place outside of the main Marvel Comics continuity (which takes place in Universe 616). This means that the stories answer “what if” questions about your favorite Marvel characters, without worrying if the answers to those questions are going to affect the prime Marvel Comics timeline and characters.

In the What If…? animated series, Uatu the Watcher (Jeffery Wright) will be our guide, serving as a host and narrating the proceedings. And you may find that Uatu is somewhat familiar, considering that we saw several Watchers appear during the Stan Lee cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2.

Plenty of Peggy
In this alternate universe, Agent Peggy Carter receives the Super Soldier Serum and Steve Rogers remains his scrawny self. Excitingly, several of the new images feature Agent Peggy Carter as Captain Britain, even recreating the famous shot from 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger.

This incarnation of Peggy Carter is based on the version of the character, Peggy Carter Captain America, that first appeared in the Marvel Puzzle Quest mobile game.

Captain Peggy Carter was also featured in Exiles #3 (2018) by Saladin Ahmed, Javier Rodríguez, Álvaro López, Chris O’Halloran, and Joe Caramagna, with a cover by David Marquez and Justin Ponsor.

Judging by the images released, we’ll get the chance to see this incarnation of Cap fighting alongside the Howling Commandos! What a treat!
More What If…? Cameos
The newly released images also include a picture of Fury and Clint Barton, A.K.A. Hawkeye, standing next to one another in what appears to be the S.H.I.E.L.D. containment perimeter for Thor’s hammer in New Mexico, from the first Thor movie.

While we don’t have an official release date for Marvel’s What If…? just yet, it’s reportedly scheduled to arrive this August, according to Movieweb.
