RUMOR: Carmen Ejogo to Join Secret Invasion?
According to an exclusive report over at The Illuminerdi, actor Carmen Ejogo is in talks to join the growing cast of the highly anticipated upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe Disney+ series, Secret Invasion.
A Full Dossier
As Marvel Blog True Believers are well aware, the cast of Secret Invasion has a whole dossier full of exciting potential stars.
First, Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) and Ben Mendelsohn (Talos the Skrull) have been attached since the project was first announced on Disney Investor Day in December 2020.
Next, a bunch of actors were reported as having been added to the cast, although we do not know what roles they will be playing.
First up, in March, Kingsley Ben-Adir was announced.
Then, in April, we got two more actors.
First up was Olivia Colman.
Then, a few days later, Emilia Clarke was added.
And finally, in early May, we learned that Killian Scott would be joining the cast, as well.
Now, as we head into June, it looks as though we finally have a working production title, as well as another addition to the growing cast!
I Spy, Carmen Ejogo
According to The Illuminerdi (and backed up by other sources in the Marvel paparazzi beat), the British actress and singer, Ejogo, has been officially offered a role in the Secret Invasion series on Disney+
According to a profile on Ejogo in The Guardian, she got her start as a child, picking up a kids’ modeling agent, a small part alongside David Bowie in Absolute Beginners at 11, and presenting gig on a Saturday morning TV show on the Disney Channel.
Today, Ejogo is known for the playing Veronica ‘Ronnie’ Tate in 1997’s Metro, Brenda in 1998’s The Avengers (no, not that The Avengers), Eva Sanchez in 2014’s The Purge: Anarchy, and Coretta Scott King in 2014’s Selma.
Among her many movie acting credits, Marvel Blog True Believers, may care to know that she also appeared as Karine in 2017’s Alien: Covenant, a property that recently transferred to Marvel Entertainment.
But perhaps, she is best known for her work on the Starz series The Girlfriend Experience in 2017 and the HBO anthology crime series True Detective in 2019.
Secretive Invasion
While we may have a growing cast list, we don’t know much about what the story of the series will actually be.
In the comics, Secret Invasion featured the Super Skrulls, versions of the shapeshifting aliens who possessed some of the powers of Earth-616’s superheroes! These insidious actors infiltrated every level of Earth authority in order to take over once and for all (but they didn’t count on Norman Osborn messing up their plans, which, to be fair, who would have).
Will the Disney+ adaptation play out in a similar fashion, or is there a brave new Secret Invasion on the way? We aren’t sure yet, Marvel Blog True Believers, but we can promise you that we’ll be investigating every step of the way!
