REVIEW: Reptil #2 Evolves Wonderfully
In Reptil #2 by Terry Blas, Enid Balám, Carlos Lopez, Victor Olazaba, and Joe Sabino, with a main cover by Paco Medina and Federico Blee, the story that we were introduced to in the first issue is expanded in the best way possible! We get more of the characters, more dinosaur action, and some intriguing developments to the ongoing narrative in this outstanding second issue!
You’ll want to open a portal to your local comic shop to pick up this issue, Marvel Blog True Believers!
Great Character Work
I liked how we got to learn more about Humberto’s cousins, Eva and Julian, in this Reptil issue.
First of all, Julian helps Humberto out in a BIG way by getting him a better costume, and we find out that Eva has been working on her spellcasting just in case any of the stares she gets for being Latinx end up turning into confrontations. Ya know, some people just have to fight for their right to exist… always.
Learning more about these supporting characters adds a ton of interesting texture to the story!
Expanding the World
While I did really love how the previous episode in Reptil #1 gave the characters a chance to appear in familiar LA locations, in this issue, the opposite occurs – they open a portal to Dinosaur World, a world filled with… well, I bet you can guess!
Besides, while it was cool to see them in places I’ve actually been, it was an interesting change of pace to see the opposite in this issue! And seeing so many awesome dinosaur depictions was an amazing benefit!
Plus, Dinosaur World gives the narrative in Reptil #2 a chance to get more complicated, and I think we’re going to see some interesting things happening there in issue three!
