REVIEW: Extreme Carnage Alpha
In Extreme Carnage Alpha by Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Manuel Garcia, Cam Smith, Marc Deering, Roberto Poggi, Guru-eFX, and Travis Lanham, with a main cover by Dave Rapoza, the pieces for the Extreme Carnage event are put into place.
This event will feature eight issues over the course of three months, and the inaugural chapter hits the ground running with some very interesting components!
Anti-Alien Sentiment
First and foremost, you should know that you can enjoy Extreme Carnage Alpha even if you haven’t kept up with the more recent Venom storylines. Although those events do form the backdrop of this story, the details you get over the course of the comic are sufficient to keep you informed.
The story in Extreme Carnage Alpha is centered around Senator Peter Krane, a politician who is capitalizing on the anti-alien sentiment that occurred as a result of the aforementioned previous Venom storylines.
In Alpha, Krane wants to stoke this hateful sentiment because he knows he can use the fear that voters have, riding that wave to the White House.
In fact, Krane even goes so far as to begin stoking an insurrection, instructing the crowds of people who are attending his rally in Central Park that “[w]hen the President dedicates his meaningless memorial at the National Mall, we want to send him the strongest possible message.”
Can Flash Thompson stop Krane’s plan to ride a wave of hatred into the White House? It’s a storyline with some extremely high stakes!
In addition to these interesting story elements, there are also plenty of horrific visuals in this issue… including a symbiote that has been bonded with Tony Stark’s Extremis armor! That seems like a bad idea to us, Tony, but you do you.
Extreme Carnage Scream
The next issue in this event arrives tomorrow, Wednesday, July 14th: Extreme Carnage Scream! Will you be swinging to your local comic shop to pick up a copy? Let us know in the comment section, Marvel Blog True Believers!
