To Die Sane: Danny Ramirez vs. El Cuco
According to an article posted on Deadline on Thursday, July 15th, 2021, Danny Ramirez, who appeared in Captain America and the Winter Soldier as Joaquín Torres, will be producing and starring in the upcoming thriller To Die Sane.
To Die Sane
To Die Sane will see Ramirez (learn more about the actor here) portraying a Mexican-American ICE agent.
After one of the immigrants they’ve detained commits suicide, the protagonist’s fellow ICE agents begin to be attacked by what they slowly start to suspect is El Cuco, the mythical kidnapping creature from Central American lore (read Sonyi Lopez‘s story about the boogeyman here).
Recently, El Cuco appeared in the novel The Outsider by Stephen King, which was subsequently adapted into a HBO series of the same name.
Joaquín Torres
In Captain America and the Winter Soldier, which recently received five Emmy nominations, Ramirez played Torres, who seems likely to step into the role of the Falcon now that Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) has moved on to being Captain America.
In the panels of Marvel Comics, Torres was on the opposite side of the conflict as the character Ramirez will play in To Die Sane.
The 616 incarnation of Torres was a coyote, someone who helps those crossing the border between Mexico and the United States by leaving supplies like food and water in the desert between the two countries. These resources can prove invaluable to the individuals making the journey, and can help them avoid being detained by ICE agents (like the one Ramirez will play in To Die Sane).
