REVIEW: Meet Aaron Fischer in United States of Captain America #1
In The United States of Captain America #1’s main story, “You Brought Two Too Many” by Christopher Cantwell, Dale Eaglesham, Matt Milla, and Joe Caramagna, we get introduced to the premise of the five-issue series: after Steve Rogers has the titular Captain America shield stolen, he and Sam Wilson join forces for a cross-country journey to retrieve it!

“You Brought Two Too Many”
The first story has a lot of groundwork to cover: it has to introduce the premise of the series (Cap’s stolen shield), move the players into place, and kick off the action! It does all of these over the course of the story’s pages.
One very “Captain America” aspect of this story is the narration.

When the story opens, Rogers is expressing his frustration with the “American dream” (or lack thereof). For Marvel Comics readers who have been paging through issues of Marvel Comics’ Captain America for decades… nothing could be more characteristic of a Cap comic!

However, the real highlight is the introduction of Aaron Fischer, the Captain America of the Railways. This new character, billed as the first gay Captain America, was one of the most highly anticipated characters of the year – and out of excitement, I even got a variant cover of Marvel’s Voices: Pride #1 featuring him!

“Tracks”
But my favorite part of the issue was the second story, “Tracks” by Josh Trujillo, Jan Bazaldua, Milla, and Caramagna. The reason I liked this second story so much is it gave us the full introduction to Fischer’s origin story!

Not only was this a solid introduction to a fascinating new character, I adored the little references that appear throughout the comic. With allusions to Cosmic Cubes, Dazzler, Roxxon, and even the Smithsonian, there’s no part of this story that wasn’t a delight!

Let’s hope we get a spin-off issue, all about Fischer!
U.S. of Cap
This month, in The United States of Captain America #2, we get more of the main story, plus the introduction of another local Captain America. Considering how awesome Fischer turned out to be, we can’t wait to meet her! Stay tuned for our review of the second issue later this week!
