In a Tweet sent on Friday, August 20th, 2021, actor Clancy Brown sent a Tweet that included an image of him posing alongside the Marvel Legends action figure of Surtur, the giant, flaming monster that spells Asgards doom in the 2017 Marvel Cinematic Movie Thor: Ragnarok!

In the movie, Brown lent his voice to Surtur, the fire giant that has been tormenting Thor in the panels of Marvel Comics since a story in Journey into Mystery #97 in 1963 by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, G. Bell, and Art Simek.
In the pages of The Art of Marvel Studios Thor: Ragnarok, which was written by Eleni Roussas, Thor: Ragnarok concept artist Jackson Sze, Surtur was the subject of some of his earliest designs for the movie.
“Surtur was the character they wanted to see some iterations for first,” Sze is quoted as saying in The Art of Marvel Studios Thor: Ragnarok. “The idea of a flaming-skeleton monster is not entirely novel in the entertainment industry, so I was just trying to find some way to make it a little bit different…”
Brown About Town
In addition to voicing Surtur in Thor: Ragnarok, you’ve definitely heard Clancy’s voice before!
The actor also lends his dulcet tones to one of the most famous characters in all of animation, Eugene H. Krabs, the owner of the Krabby Patty on SpongeBob SquarePants, a role he has been playing since the very first episode of the show aired on Nickelodeon in 1999.
And if you were a fan of ABC’s LOST, you may recognize Brown from two episodes of the show’s sophomore season, in which he played Kelvin Joe Inman, Desmond’s roommate in the Hatch.
