REVIEW: Ochi’s Out of Luck in Darth Vader #15
In Darth Vader #15 by Greg Pak, Raffaele Ienco, Jason Keith, and Joe Caramagna, with a main cover by Aaron Kuder and Richard Isanove, we get a story that’s all about Ochi!
All About Ochi
Ochi of Bestoon is a Sith-aligned bounty hunter who was introduced in Star Wars – Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker (2019). In that movie, Rey, Finn, and Poe discovered Ochi’s skeletal remains on the planet of Pasaana.
However, Ochi has also been playing an important role in the ongoing War of the Bounty Hunters crossover event. This is thanks to the fact that the event takes place between Episode V and Episode VI – in other words, back when Ochi was still alive.
Ochi appeared in the first Darth Vader issue to tie-in with the War of the Bounty Hunters event, Darth Vader #13, and he’s been playing an important role in the Vader subplot ever since.
In this issue, we start to get a sense of how integral that role may be to the climax of the Bounty Hunters event, since Ochi is essentially the focus of this story!
Vader Visions
In addition to an interesting examination of Ochi, this issue also allows us to see Vader from an incidental character’s perspective – and this is always my favorite way to see Vader! Think of the role the character played in Star Wars: Rogue One: he was more like a force of nature that those around him were powerless to stop.
This is also the dynamic between Vader and Ochi, and giving us an issue from his perspective helps us understand why everyone in a galaxy far, far away is so afraid of this Vader guy! I mean you would be too if that guy shoved you out of a pew pew machine!
