Anson Mount Says “No Thanks” to X-Men Role
In an article posted to Movieweb on Thursday, October 14th, 2021, the star of the upcoming series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and “Top 3 Current Acting Trek Captain” Anson Mount said that although the Southern superhero is his favorite, he wasn’t interested in portraying the mutant “Gambit” in future X-Men Marvel Cinematic Universe projects.
What? An actor isn’t interested in playing a MCU role? Did I write that correctly? I sure did, Marvel Blog True Believers! Read on to learn why the actor who originated his interpretation of Captain Christopher Pike on the second season of Star Trek: Discovery says he’d pass on portraying Remy Lebeau.
What is this, a Mirror Universe episode?
Mount was being interviewed regarding his performance as Batman in the animated Injustice movie, which was released on digital today.
First, Mount teed us up by saying that, if given the choice of any Marvel role, he’d choose Black Blot (a character that the actor already portrayed in ABC’s Inhumans) second only to Gambit. He elaborated that Gambit is one of the most interesting and complicated characters (in spite of the fact that his powerset doesn’t exactly put him anywhere near Omega-mutant territory). Mount added that the “Southern superhero” appealed to him because of “his wit and his ability to overcome such a dark past and then the far future reaches that Marvel has done with him in terms of the scope of his possible futures, it’s just amazing.”
However, Mount was only lifting us up to let us down, Marvel Blog True Believers!
“Now, I’m probably too old so, you know, there’s some people out there that have been calling about Reed Richards, but I don’t know,” said Mount. “My dance card’s a little full right now and so is theirs.”
Ugh, that cool-as-ice response just makes us want to see him in any of these roles more! But one thing’s for sure, Marvel Blog True Believers: I look forward to seeing Mount on the bridge of the Enterprise when Star Trek: Strange New Worlds premieres on Paramount+ in 2022 (more like ParaNSONmount+, amirite).
While we await these upcoming projects, maybe (just maybe) I can stomach returning to Inhumans… for the marvelous Anson Mount!
Captain on the bridge!
Which future MCU role would you like to see Mount appear in, Marvel Blog True Believers? Will Dave Bautista appear as a Klingon in SNW? We want to hear from you in the comments! But just remember: it seems like that Mount guy is pretty choosy with his roles, and he’s got his hands full with Starfleet!
