RETRO REVIEW: Pizza Dog Stars in Hawkeye (2012) #11
In Hawkeye (2012) #11 by Matt Fraction, David Aja, Matt Hollingsworth, and Chris Eliopoulous, we get one of the greatest issues ever in the history of Marvel Comics, and it stars our hero, Pizza Dog!
That’s right, Marvel Blog True Believers: I’m not even afraid of hyperbole here. One of the greatest issues of Marvel Comics EVER! Buckle up, because here comes Pizza Dog!
Pizza Dog in “Pizza is my Business”
From the very first panel of this issue, it’s clear that it’s going to be something special. The whole story is presented from the perspective of Pizza Dog, giving us a dog’s eye view of the events. This is an especially interesting decision considering the content of this issue.
First, there’s the fight between Kate and Clint. This is a big moment for the series and will inform the next few issues (not to mention the rest of Kate and Pizza Dog’s respective stories in the comics for years to come), so that’s a big deal!
Plus, as we know from the previous two issues, Grills has been murdered, and it turns out that Pizza Dog will be the one to investigate.
As with the third issue of the series, this issue creates its own internal language, that allows you to gain insight into just what Pizza Dog is thinking as he sniffs out the truth of the situation.
In fact, this issue is so integral that Jolt the Golden Retriever, the canine actor who appears in the Hawkeye streaming series on Disney+, posed with a copy of it in advance of the show’s premiere!
Hawkeye (2012) #11
This issue also lacks a letters page, even on Marvel Unlimited… but you know what? Hawkeye #11 is so good you don’t need a letters page, you can just read it over again.
Have you had a chance to read this all-time-great issue of Hawkeye (2012)? We want to hear from you, Marvel Blog True Believers! Let us know what you’re thinking in the comment section.
