Even More Details about EPCOT’s COSMIC REWIND Revealed!
In an article posted to the Entertainment Weekly website on Monday, December 6th, 2021, even more details were revealed about the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind roller coaster, opening in Summer 2022 at EPCOT park at Walt Disney World, Florida.
The Nova Corps Are Coming
According to senior Imagineer Wyatt Winter, Cosmic Rewind will feature variable speeds and shifting directions, allowing riders to “take it all in.” This will be essential, as the ride promises to be chock-a-block full of Easter Eggs that reference both the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the history of Walt Disney World!
The ride will be located where Ellen’s Energy Adventure used to be, but with an expansion toward the parking lot, making it one of the largest indoor roller coasters anywhere on Earth.
In addition to these practical considerations, the story of the ride has also been more fully revealed – and it explains the recent revelation that Glenn Close will be reprising the role of Nova Prime for Cosmic Rewind.
It seems that the planet Xandar has come to Earth in order to more fully understand the history of the Terrans, and in order to do so, they’ve set up at the Other-World Showcase Pavilion. The Xandarians want to learn more about Earth culture, and share their culture with us Terrans – in other words, the goals of the Other-World Showcase Pavilion align with those of EPCOT generally.
However, Winter did emphasize that Cosmic Rewind was on its own unique timeline, not the “Sacred Timeline” of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Furthermore, we know that Cosmic Rewind will feature all-new footage featuring the stars of the movie and directed by James Gunn!
