RETRO REVIEW: Tracksuit Mafia Strike in Hawkeye (2012) #15
In Hawkeye (2012) #15 by Matt Fraction, David Aja, Matt Hollingsworth, and Chris Eliopolous, with an awesome main cover by Aja featuring a word search design that reveals the creative team, we return to old New York to check in on Clint and the Tracksuit Mafia after spending the last issue with the Best Hawkeye on the Best Coast!
Hawkeye (2015) #15
In this issue, not only do we return to New York City to see what’s going on with Clint and his brother, Barney, we also learn more about the conflict that’s been at the heart of this title: the dispute between Clint and the Tracksuit Mafia over ownership of the apartment building that he’s been living in.
While Clint sees it as a straightforward matter of protecting his neighbors, legally speaking, that’s not exactly what’s going on here: technically, Clint is squatting. This means that he has no rights as a landlord – in other words, he cannot call the police in order to have them remove the Tracksuit Mafia from his property.
Over the course of this issue, the Tracksuit Mafia realizes this is the case, and as such, they move in for the kill… quite literally, as it turns out. Talk about your cliffhangers!
This issue also saw the return of Black Widow and Mockingbird (after they first appeared in issue eight), who play smaller, supporting roles in this story.
Revenge of the Tracksuit Mafia
Clint has really pissed off the Tracksuit Mafia! Will he live to tell the tale? Will his brother, Barney? And what will happen to the families and surviving civilians who live in the apartment building (rest in peace, Grills)?
There are only seven more issues left in this run to resolve all these plot threads! Do you think they can manage, Marvel Blog True Believers? Let us know what you’re thinking in the comment section!
