RETRO REVIEW: Fantastic Four (1962) #2
In Fantastic Four (1962) #2 by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, George Klein, Stan Goldberg, and John Duffy, we get a story that pits Marvel’s first super hero family against none other than the Skrulls! This sixty year old comic still has major ramifications for the mighty Marvel multiverse, Marvel Blog True Believers. Let’s take a look!
Fantastic Four (1962) #2
This issue opens on The Thing floating in the ocean, along with a text box that asks, “What’s going on here?” I love the convention that comics from this era have where they’ll show you a crazy situation and then say, “Isn’t this situation nuts?”
From here, we have something of a mystery: the Fantastic Four are acting very out of character! What’s going on here?
As those of us who have watched plenty of Marvel Cinematic Universe movies might have guessed, the shapeshifting skrulls are the culprit! One thing that I found very interesting about this issue is how the concepts that we are still exploring in Marvel Comics and the MCU today were introduced so long ago… and how much they still have in common! Sixty years later, we are still very interested in the Skrulls and the Fantastic Four, after all.
2 + 2 = 4
This comic is available to read now on the Marvel Unlimited app, if you have a subscription.
2022 is assuredly going to be a big year for the Fantastic Four. Not only are they going to be appearing in a graphic novel by Alex Ross from the brand-new MarvelArts imprint, they’re also going to be headlining a major Marvel Comics event, Reckoning War. With all this action, could we be seeing the team’s big-screen debut in 2022? We want to hear what you think, Marvel Blog True Believers!
