I Am Groot Storyboards Tease Adorable Animated Action
In an article by Christian Bone posted to We Got This Covered on Monday, January 3rd, 2021, some storyboard images from the animated I Am Groot series were posted, giving us our first glimpse of the highly anticipated upcoming Disney+ series!
I Am Groot
According to the article on We Got This Covered, the storyboards were posted by artist Mark Hurtado to his Art Station channel.
Not only do the I Am Groot storyboard images feature the eponymous Groot, they also include Drax the Destroyer. As noted by the We Got This Covered piece, it is unclear whether or not Dave Bautista will be reprising the role of Drax or not (he may still have his hands full with the new puppy).
When Drax played a brief role in the first season of What If…?, he was played by Fred Tatasciore, a very Marvelous voice actor indeed.
Funnily enough, Tatasciore also appears on Star Trek: Lower Decks as Bajoran crewmember Shax, while Bautista has gone on record saying he’d like to enter the Star Trek universe as a Klingon. Perhaps some kind of mirror-universe switcheroo is in order!
However, as noted by the We Got This Covered article, James Gunn is producing this series, and he’s a close personal friend of Bautista, so perhaps one of the greatest actors on the big screen in the MCU will be appearing on I Am Groot, after all!
At any rate, the I Am Groot storyboards also tease some of what we may see in the upcoming Disney+ show, like… Donkey Kong? It’s true what Fry says on Futurama, Marvel Blog True Believers: “Space! It seems to go on forever. Then you get to the end and a gorilla starts throwing barrels at you.”
