In a Tweet sent on Wednesday, January 12th, 2022, Kieron Gillen stated that in his first draft for Darth Vader #1, the character of Black Krrsantan, who will be familiar to viewers of The Book of Boba Fett on Disney+, the character had a somewhat different name: “Newbacca’!

A Newbacca Hope
According to the text of the Tweet, this is not a joke… but we aren’t so sure we believe that, Marvel Blog True Believers. Suffice to say that you just have to take anything the creator of Doctor Aphra says with a grain of salt.
Don’t get the joke, Marvel Blog True Believers? Let’s explain this in such a way that all the humor has been wrung right out of it, like a Wookie wringing out his fur after a long shower with his favorite starship captain (see Solo: A Star Wars Story on Disney+ for more about this). “Newbacca” is a pun based on the name “Chewbacca.”
In the original trilogy, Chewbacca was the OG Wookie, played by Peter Mayhew. The 7’3” tall Mayhew went on to reprise the role in the prequels and in 2015’s Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens.
During that movie, the 6’11” tall Joonas Suotamo served as Mayhew’s body double, and stepped into the role in Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi, continuing to portray the character in Solo and Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker.
Black Krrsantan is played by Carey Jones inThe Book of Boba Fett. Is the character going to be playing a bigger role later in the season, and if so, will we get to see some of our favorite Star Wars characters from the panels of Marvel Comics appear?
C’mon, Valance, Aphra, and Sana Starros! Where y’all at?
The Book of Boba Fett
