This past week, Amazon canceled a show that promptly won awards.

Also, the creators of Vision Quest made an odd Iron Man promise, and we learned about some reshoots.

I’ll explain it all in this week’s MarvelBlog News.

The Vision Quest Update

Whenever we discuss Vision Quest, we must be careful about making assumptions.

This series functions as the third part of the WandaVision trilogy.

Why does that matter? Well, Paul Bettany pranked the world on WandaVision.

He teased an epic face-off with an actor he’d always wanted to face.

Who was that actor? It was him. He was explicitly referencing the new Vision.

So, I don’t believe a word Bettany says about anything, nor do I trust his bosses.

Keeping that in mind, showrunner Terry Matalas has performed plenty of interviews lately.

With the series debuting a month from tomorrow, he’s on board the hype train.

In fact, he may be steering it, at least based on a few tasty tidbits he’s mentioned.

For starters, the Ultron we see on the show is real and not a figment of Vision’s imagination.

Apparently, when Vision destroyed Ultron, he did what any good robot would.

Vision stored a local copy of Ultron’s data file, which is why the villain still exists.

Now, I quibble with this explanation, as the video clearly shows Vision disintegrating his brother.

Still, anything that puts James Spader back in this role is a very good thing.

Somehow, this isn’t the mic drop announcement about Vision Quest, though.

Matalas performed an interview wherein he explains the concept of loss from an AI perspective.

As the showrunner explains it, FRIDAY inhabited Tony Stark’s suit when he died.

So, Vision Quest will explore what the loss of her creator has done to her psyche.

I realize that’s a strange term to use for a virtual assistant, but what else would you call it?

FRIDAY existed to aid Tony Stark. What has her existence been like without him?

That’s a fascinating question that we’ll apparently have answered next month.

The Spider-Noir Update

Okay, these stories combine for a very strange series of events.

Amazon surprised everyone last week by announcing it had canceled Spider-Noir.

By all accounts, Amazon had loved the show and its performance.

However, for whatever reason, the streaming service has chosen not to pull the trigger on a second season.

This isn’t the biggest shock of the year by any stretch, but it’s probably in the top five.

Amazon executives quickly explained that they’re not done with Sony’s Spider-Man Universe.

Instead, studio executives are currently settling between a few other potential projects.

Well, that’s what they’re saying for now. I’m still waiting for that Silk: Spider Society show.

Frankly, Amazon doesn’t seem enthralled with its Sony Spider-Man deal.

After all, when you don’t have Spider-Man, you’re missing almost all the appeal.

To a larger point, this was a baffling week to announce the cancellation of Spider-Noir.

As you may know, the Emmy Awards handed out the Creative Emmys last weekend.

Spider-Noir had earned a whopping 11 nominations, and it didn’t go home empty-handed.

The now-defunct series won five Emmys, including Best Cinematography.

Spider-Noir’s stylish tone clearly resonated with voters, just not with Amazon.

For his part, Nicolas Cage took the high road about his show’s cancellation. He said:

“For me, one season is perfect, having said what I wanted to say with this dangerous, innovative, pop-art Spider-Man.”

That’s a healthy attitude, but this cancellation baffles me nearly as much as Wonder-Man’s last month.

Streaming services seem to run hot and cold on Marvel comic book adaptations.

Marvel Miscellany

We’ve got two more stories to discuss this week, both of which involve Marvel’s biggest 2026 releases.

First, I should discuss the box office performance of Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

The film recently became only the second title ever to earn $900 million domestically.

Importantly, Avengers: Endgame fell short with $858.4 million.

As such, Marvel is definitely hoping that the re-release nets at least $41.6 million…which it will since it has reported $40 million in early ticket sales.

Then, three films would have crossed $900 million, with two of them Marvel titles.

In case you’re wondering, the other is Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the current record-holder.

After a strong Labor Day performance, Brand New Day is poised to break that record.

I should stress that this total only applies to domestic box office, though.

In terms of global box office, Brand New Day will become the third film to break $2.5 billion.

In fact, it may do so by the time you read this. Still, it won’t beat Endgame overall.

That film’s global take of a tick under $2.8 billion appears out of reach.

Still, the latest Spider-Man film will earn at least $600 million more than Spider-Man: No Way Home.

I don’t think anybody expected that heading into the summer box office campaign.

Marvel Miscellany Part II

Speaking of Endgame, filming has finally finished for its sequel, Avengers: Doomsday.

Yes, I realize you may tilt your head at that, but as I’d mentioned, Marvel did some reshoots.

As expected, Doomsday will sneak in a couple more characters as part of the end credits.

If I told you the hot name right now, I doubt you’d believe me…but it’s not Tom Holland.

The prevailing belief is that he won’t appear in the film, although I hope that’s wrong.

Marvel should capitalize on the success of Brand New Day by adding him to this film.

Not having him in Doomsday would be a huge miss, especially after what has happened this summer.
