Dakota Johnson Reportedly Cast as Madame Web in Upcoming Solo Film

With Sony’s Spider-Man Universe coming more into focus, it appears as though they have their newest star as Dakota Johnson is reportedly cast as Madame Web in an upcoming solo film.

Coming off of the instant classic that was Spider-Man: No Way Home, Sony has found its greatest box office success, and a renewed energy surrounding their developing film universe centered around Spider-Man characters.

With Morbius delayed, but quickly approaching, the Jared Leto-starring film on the vampiric Spider-Man villain is slated to join Venom, and Venom: Let There Be Carnage as the first three entries into Sony’s live-action Spider-Man centered Marvel Universe.

Kraven The Hunter starring Aaron Taylor Johnson is next in development, but isn’t alone as upcoming additions to this Sony universe, as Dakota Johnson is reportedly cast as Madame Web in an upcoming solo film.

First reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the casting comes as a bit of a surprise for Marvel fans, as Madame Web is, traditionally, much older and is a rather obscure Spider-Man character.

What makes the casting even more interesting is Dakota Johnson’s willingness to enter back into the world of franchise, big-budget, films.

Despite rising to fame as one of the main characters in the Fifty Shades of Grey franchise, Johnson has remained a performer that embraced smaller projects; with the now Sony Madame Web project standing as likely one of the biggest films she has been a part of.

As far as which incarnation of Madane Web Johnson will be playing, there is plenty of uncertainty; with Cassandra Webb as the first appearance of the character created by Denny O’Neill and John Romita Jr. in The Amazing Spider-Man #210, and the later iteration being Julia Carpenter the former Spider-Women

With her age likely to be a factor in which incarnation Johnson will play, it is obviously more feasible that she is playing the Julia Carpenter version of the character, which would mean that Spider-Women would be a feasible entrance into that same Sony Spider-Man universe.

Time will only tell what a Dakota Johnson-led Madame Webb film will be, but we do know that Johnson is one of the most gifted young actors in the world today, and should bring plenty to the role.
