‘Moon Knight’ Is Refreshingly Separate From the MCU
With the premiere episode bringing to life what promises to be one of Marvel’s most interesting characters, the newest series is a breath of fresh air, as Moon Knight is refreshingly separate from the MCU.
The story of Marc Spector- or Steven Grant- is one that is quite unlike anything that Marvel has tackled to this point.
A former mercenary who suffers from Dissociative identity disorder, Marc Spector lives in a world in which he inhabits a body only some of the time; as multiple personalities come to define Spector’s experience.
The personality of Steven Grant was front and center in the newest MCU series, with the focus on the cockney gift shop clerk who is desperately trying to make sense of life that truly doesn’t exist.
The latest Marvel entry on Disney+ is tremendously unique in the grand scheme of the MCU, and what makes it such a great change of pace is that Moon Knight is refreshingly separate from the MCU.
There is an investment from viewers that had endeared viewers to the MCU, and it is that same investment that keeps audiences coming back for more.
With every passing film, every passing year, and every passing phase there is more and more that is evolved from the original 2008 Iron Man; with the interconnected universe growing to intergalactic and interdimensional proportions.
This is the greatest blessing of the MCU, but also stands as its greatest curse; as the necessity to keep up with every single entry and every single easter egg can, occasionally- take away from the story of the individual projects.
That isn’t the case for Moon Knight, as the creative force behind the series has seemed to make an effort to minimize the need for MCU fans to seek out easter eggs and connections with previous entries.
Moon Knight brings this central focus on one single character, and one single story, and allows fans to step outside of the overall franchise model, and embrace the singular story of Marc Spector.
