‘Morbius’ Official Reviews are in, and Critics are Not a Fan of Sony’s Newest Film
The continuation of Sony’s film universe of Spider-Man characters is quickly arriving, as Morbius official reviews are in; yet, critics are not a fan of Sony’s newest entry.
The film that had broken the record for the longest delayed film in history, Morbius is finally arriving in theaters in just a few days.
Morbius is centered on the character of Michale Morbius, a doctor who sets out to find a way to aid patients that are afflicted with a deadly disease with no known cure; the same disease that affects Michael Morbius himself.
The film follows Sony’s developing film franchise of Spider-Man characters, following both Venom and the subsequent Venom: Let There be Carnage.
With the movie just a few days away, Morbius official reviews are in, and critics are not the biggest fans of the film.
Spencer Perry of the pop culture hub ComicBook.com, stated that “Morbius has the worst sequel-bait for a movie in years, featuring an abrupt conclusion that feels like reshoots and pre-viz have become intertwined.”
Similar sentiments were echoed by Clarisse Loughrey of The Independent, who stated, “It can’t be described as the wild, untethered disaster that some were secretly hoping for, either, because that would imply some level of creative risk.”
Kate Erbland of IndieWire started her review by remarking, “Even the most basic elements of the film are incomprehensible. Michael has all the trappings of a bad guy, but by the time he gifts yet another origami animal to someone he cares about, you’ll have to wonder, this dude is a villain?”
Peter Bradshaw of The Guardian states, “His story unfolds with all the dramatic shape of a screensaver and then ends- to be followed by two plonking anti-climactic post-credit stings whose sheepish purpose is to lay out more coming attractions from the very corporate Sony’s Spider-Man Universe”
Finally, Kristy Ouchiko of Mashable state, “Ruthless pacing rushes audiences across decades, around the globe, and through tiresome info-dumps about pseudo-science, bat behavior, and backstories. It’s as if Espinosa doesn’t trust we’ll actually find his story interesting, so he allows no moments to breathe.”
The overwhelmingly negative reviews seem to point to Morbius as underwhelming, which should speak to what Sonys is attempting to build, and why the Spider-Man MCU iteration has achieved such great heights.
