Sony’s ‘Morbius’ Expects Good Box Office Despite Negative Reception
The latest installment in Sony’s development of their film franchise of Spider-Man characters has received mostly negative reviews, which the studio doesn’t expect to impact it financially as Morbius sees a promising box office despite its negative reception.
The most delayed film of the pandemic era is finally arriving for fans, as the latest Sony solo project is arriving in their pursuit of developing their own Marvel Universe.
Collaborating with Marvel Studios on the latest installment of the MCU Spider-Man saga yielded record-breaking results, as the two studios crafted near masterpieces that are far and away the most successful film of the pandemic era.
Sony is hoping to continue that financial success with their latest film, as Morbius, is expecting a good box office turnout despite the film’s negative reception.
CBR.com reported that the upcoming Jared Leto-led project, “is estimated to pull in between $40 and $50 million in its first three days.”
The report goes on to say, “That would put the film, which has a projected budget of $75 million, well on the way to recouping its cost and breaking even, though its difficult to tell just how much the numerous delays to Morbius have altered that estimate.”
The report concludes by stating, “Sony is predicting a more modest opening of $33 Million, which would post problems for the studios Spider-Man Universe.”
Fan expectation over the film has seemed destined to affect its outcome, as Spider-Man: No Way Home was one of the greatest comic book adaptations of all time and celebrated three generations of the iconic character’s existence on the big screen
With Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguires returning to their roles, fans speculated about Sony continuing on their own universe of Marvel characters with one of them reprising their role as Spider-Man.
It doesn’t seem as though Sony has any interest in diving into the Spider-Man of their universe, and their failure stands in believing people care enough about these villains to justify the film’s shortcomings.
Time will tell how Morbius fares a the box office, and what that means for the continuation of Sony’s Spider-man universe.
