Kit Harrington Says He Didn’t Join the MCU Because It Was “Different” or “Interesting”
Expectations were high when Game of Thrones star Kit Harrington made the jump into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) for 2021’s Eternals.
Portraying Dane Whitman, a scientist, historian, and boyfriend of Gemma Chan’s Sersi, it appeared as if the actor was being set up as one of the next big Marvel stars. After all, as comic book fans know, Whitman eventually becomes Black Knight.

When Eternals ended with Harrington’s character coming to terms with his family history, wielding the Ebony Blade, and hearing Blade’s voice, it looked like Marvel had big plans for Dane Whitman in the future.
Harrington Reveals Why He Joined the MCU
Three years after Eternals hit theaters, however, we have yet to see Dane Whitman again. In fact, with Kevin Feige recently revealing that there were no plans for an Eternals 2 at this time, it now remains to be seen whether or not Harrington ever returns to the MCU.

In a recent interview with GQ, Harrington was asked about his plans for the future of Marvel. While the actor did not divulge any new information about his character’s future, he did reflect on joining the MCU in the first place.

“I’m not gonna pretend I took that [role] because it was different and interesting. If Marvel calls, you gotta do it,” he quipped.
Will Black Knight Return?
While it doesn’t look like an Eternals 2 is in the cards, it is possible that we have not seen the last of Harrington’s Dane Whitman.
At this time, it appears that Marvel is still dead-set on making Blade despite its disastrous production.

If the film does hit theaters, Whitman’s connection to Blade could allow Harrington to reprise his MCU role. If that is the case, the actor admits that he likes his character and would be interested in returning.

With Blade still in production and the Midnight Sons perhaps on the horizon, fans can hold out hope that we have not seen the last of Black Knight.
