Ryan Reynolds Pens Touching Tribute to Rob Delaney and Reveals One of His Biggest Regrets
Ryan Reynolds took to social media last night to pay tribute to his Deadpool & Wolverine co-star Rob Delaney.
Delaney, of course, reprised his role as the always-affable Peter in the latest Deadpool installment. In the film, the fan-favorite character continued to be both Deadpool’s biggest cheerleader and the apple of his eye.
“Rob Delaney brought PeterPool (née Sugarbear) into our hearts and effortlessly redefined the modern moose-knuckle — showing it can be chic AND practical. And if theories are correct, he may be the new Anchor Being,” Reynolds began.
Reynolds Explains Deadpool & Wolverine’s Tribute to Rob’s Late Son
After praising Delaney for his humor and talent, Reynolds got serious.
“If you stayed through the credits of Deadpool & Wolverine, you might notice a credit saying, ‘For Henry Delaney.’ Henry is Rob’s son. And Rob lost his little boy to a brain tumor in 2018. Right as we finished Deadpool 2,” he continued.
Delaney’s son Henry tragically passed away in January of 2018 from a brain tumor. He was just two years old. Since that time, Delaney has been open about his grief, even writing a bestselling book titled A Heart That Works about dealing with the devastating loss of his son.
Reynold’s Biggest Regret
In his post, Reynolds revealed that he has always deeply regretted not paying tribute to Henry in the end credits for Deadpool 2. This time around, he made things right.
“I’ve always kicked my own ass because I didn’t place a tribute to Henry over the end credits of DP2,” he explained.
“If there’s a bright side, even more people are seeing Henry’s name in the credits of Deadpool & Wolverine. And at long last, father and son are sharing the same screen.”
“I’m Lucky to Know Rob”
After lauding Delaney’s book, Reynolds ended his post with one more touching tribute to his friend.
“I’m lucky to know Rob. And I’m lucky to have friends willing to put themselves on the line to make others feel less alone.”
In addition to infusing Deadpool & Wolverine with humor and heart, it is clear that Delaney’s friendship has been meaningful to Reynolds. You can read his full post below.
