David Harbour Discusses the Mysterious Asterisk at the End of ‘Thunderbolts*’
Marvel Studios grabbed headlines earlier this year when it added an asterisk to the title of Thunderbolts.
“Yes, you’ll notice the asterisk on ‘Thunderbolts.’ That is the official title of ‘Thunderbolts,’ and we won’t talk more about that until after the movie comes out,” Kevin Feige teased at the time.
Since the name change, rumors have run rampant online about what the asterisk means. Many have assumed that the titular team will forgo their allegiance to Thunderbolt Ross and form the Dark Avengers. Others have suggested that there is more to the title that can not be revealed until the film hits theaters.
David Harbour Weighs In
In a recent interview with ComicBook, David Harbour, who will return as Red Guardian in Thunderbolts* was asked about the mysterious asterix. While he was loathe to give anything away, he did admit that the new title had a deeper meaning.
“I mean, they retroactively put the asterisk [in],” Harbour began. “The asterisk was an idea that that someone had…..What can I say that’s not going to get me in trouble? …The asterisk is very cool. I understand why people might put an asterisk there. I’m excited for the viewers to see that as well. But I, again, I just can’t say anymore.”
Reflecting on fan expectations for Thunderbolts*, Harbour was adamant that the film would surprise fans.
“I’m very proud of this movie, what we shot. I hear it’s playing well internally and I’m excited for people to see it. I think it’s going to really surprise people. And I think people have seen from the trailer, from the shots,” he explained. “I think it’s a pretty cool direction of the MCU’s sort of making now. And I’m excited to be a part of that.”
Thunderbolts* Could Impact the Broader MCU
Harbour’s latest comments reflect much of what we have heard about Thunderbolts*. From the sounds of things, the MCU will be in for a shakeup when the iconic team assembles next year.
Thunderbolts* will hit theaters on May 2, 2025.
