Beau DeMayo Says ‘X-Men’ 97′ Season 2 Is Delayed Because Marvel Scrapped His Original Plans
Former X-Men ’97 head writer and creator Beau DeMayo is once again lashing out at Marvel Studios.
For those who haven’t been keeping up, DeMayo was fired by Marvel just days before X-Men ’97 debuted on Disney+ last March.
While it initially looked like the two sides would remain amicable, things changed last month when DeMayo was not invited to the Creative Emmy Awards.
DeMayo’s Marvel Accusations
After publicly complaining about the snub, DeMayo took to social media and accused Marvel of stripping him of any credits for X-Men ’97 Season 2 because of a June Gay Pride post.
“Above is #XMen fan-art I posted on Instagram for Gay Pride in June,” he continued. “On June 13, #Marvel sent a letter notifying me that they’d stripped my Season 2 credits due to the post. Sadly, this is the latest in a troubling pattern I suffered through while on working on #XMen97 and #Blade.”
For their part, Marvel quickly responded, revealing that DeyMayo had been terminated after an internal investigation turned up “egregious” evidence of misconduct.
Subsequently, DeMayo filed suit against Marvel and posted a 30-minute video on his OnlyFans, where he bluntly stated that he “no longer felt safe at the studio as a gay Black man.”
DeMayo Says That Marvel Has Canceled His Plans For ‘X-Men ’97’ Season 2
As rumors swirl that Season 2 of X-Men ’97 will be delayed until 2026, but DeMayo once again took to social media to lash out at the studio.
Responding to a post on X, DeMayo stated that Marvel canceled his original plans for Season 2 of X-Men ’97, which would have seen the show explore the Age of Apocalypse storyline and debut Onslaught.’
“Yep, pretty sad. Season 2 is also only 9 episodes because of this and them canning my Onslaught/AoA finale,” he posted. “But Marvel loves shooting themselves in the foot. Especially with certain directors and execs pushing their backwards ‘we know better than the comics’ agenda.”

In a separate comment, DeMayo elaborated on his initial plans.
“I said Onslaught was resolved in ep 10 (which was scrapped) of Season 2, and the ep cliffhangered with Gambit springing Bishop out of prison in AoA timeline while outrunning evil Cyclops a la the tunnel scene with Vader in Rogue One,” he wrote.
Further Accusations
According to the series’ creator, Marvel’s decisions to make drastic changes have had a detrimental effect on the crew.
Marvel, he explained, “rewriting the season because they blew up episode 10, which paid off a season-long mystery of clues and foreshadowing that lead to Onslaught. Once that was scrapped, Marvel kept pivoting on the story they wanted to tell. And running the crew into the ground.”
While DeMayo’s insight is interesting, the former head writer clearly has a vendetta against Marvel. With reports of an X-Men ’97 Season 2 delay still unconfirmed, it would be premature to jump to conclusions.
For now, we will have to wait and see.
