Andrew Garfield Swears That He Is Not Returning For ‘Spider-Man 4’ But He Knows No One Believes Him

Ever since Andrew Garfield and Tobey Macguire made their triumphant Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) debut in Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans have wanted to see more from the respective Spider-Men.

With Marvel officially developing a Spider-Man 4, and the film set to be released between the events of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, rumors have persisted that the three Peter Parkers will share the screen again.

Now, one Spider-Man has weighed in.

Andrew Garfield Says He Is Not Returning

In a recent interview with GQ, Garfield was asked point-blank if he was returning for Spider-Man 4. The actor denied everything.

“I’m gonna disappoint you. Yeah, no. But I know no one’s gonna trust anything I say from now on,” Garfield said.

When asked if he would be open, at least, to returning, the actor had this to say:

“If it felt in line with my soul and was gonna be fun,” he said. “Maybe I’m gonna have like five kids at some point, and I’m gonna need to start saving up for the school tuition or something.”

The Actor Has Fooled Us Before

While Garfield sounds adamant that he will not suit up for Spider-Man 4, fans have heard that before.

In the lead-up to the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Garfield told anyone who asked that he was not returning as Peter Parker in the film. Obviously, it turned out that the actor was lying.

Of all the returning characters in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Garfield’s Peter Paker perhaps came out the best. After the disappointing reception to The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Garfield got a shot at redemption in No Way Home, where he saved M.J. and helped Tom Holland’s Peter defeat the Green Goblin.

With the Marvel multiverse set to come together for the events of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, the opportunity is certainly open for Garfield to return. While the actor has denied everything, seeing him suit up again wouldn’t be surprising.

For now, we will have to wait and see.
