‘Wicked’ Star Cynthia Erivo Wants to Play Storm in the MCU
After taking the world by storm with her performance as Elphaba in Wicked, Cynthia Erivo has her sights set on the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
In a recent interview with the National Board of Review, Erivo was asked what character she would like to play next. She did not hesitate in answering.
“I really want to play Storm,” Erivo said. “I know it sounds frivolous but I don’t think we’ve uncovered how grand she is and all of the inner turmoil that she has. So I think there’s a world in which we could do something like that.”
While Eviro has frequently been fan-casted as the MCU version of Storm, this is the first time the actress has expressed interest in the role.
The X-Men Are Coming
Eviro’s comments come as Marvel prepares to enter its Mutant Saga and properly introduce the X-Men into the MCU.
In the Fox Marvel films, Storm was first portrayed by Halle Berry and later by Alexandra Shipp. Despite rumors to the contrary, neither actress reprised their role in Deadpool & Wolverine. Instead, it was Alison Sealy-Smith who returned last year and reprised her X-Men: The Animated Series role as Storm in X-Men ’97 and What If…?.
As Marvel prepares to bring the X-Men into the MCU, it could use stars like Ervio. With the actress interested in the role, it is hard to see the studio passing this opportunity up.
Hopefully, we learn more about Marvel’s X-Men plans soon.
