MarvelBlog News for June 1st, 2025
In recent weeks of MarvelBlog News, I’ve focused on the biggest stories.
That was necessary with so many new titles entering theaters or ramping up production.

This week, we’ll do something different. We’ll catch up on all the stories that have fallen through the cracks and address some intriguing rumors. So, let’s get started!
No Hall H?!

According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision, Marvel surprised a few lucky theater attendants.
The studio screened The Fantastic Four: First Steps for these guests, and the film’s director, Matt Shakman, joined Kevin Feige at the event.

Notably, Marvel indicated that the viewers weren’t watching a finished copy of the movie, which is just two months from release.
So, this event doubled as a test screening of sorts for a film Marvel desperately needs to succeed, especially at the box office.

While Thunderbolts* reminded everyone of how great the MCU can be, its current box office is flagging well behind Captain America: Brave New World.
We also just learned that Marvel won’t anchor Hall H this year, a decision that may have come together fairly recently.

Marvel already knew that Fantastic Four was opening during the week of Comic-Con. So, there was no need to hype that film.
Now that Avengers: Doomsday has been pushed back until December 2026, there’s no need to market it at this year’s Comic-Con.

Marvel can do that at Comic-Con 2026 instead. Thus, there’s just no need for a Hall H show this year, frustrating as the thought may be.
As an aside, the people claiming to attend the Fantastic Four screening said it was fine, not great. That’s a worrisome report, although I’m skeptical right now.
Marvel Rumors of Note

We’ve got several rumors that have heated up recently. I was waiting for a slow week to report them, and here we are.
The first is that Mike Colter and Finn Jones, the actors who played Luke Cage and Danny Rand in Netflix’s Marvel series, are reportedly on-set right now.

Specifically, they’re at Daredevil: Born Again filming scenes for the series, an idea that tracks.
We know that season one ended with Daredevil in need of friends, and we also recently learned that Jessica Jones will appear in season two.

So, why wouldn’t Matt Murdock reach out to his other friends and fully reform The Defenders? It makes perfect sense and would be an organic character introduction.
Another story making the rounds is that Mark Ruffalo is returning soon as The Hulk…but not in the movie you’d expect.

Instead, Professor Hulk – I’m presuming that’s still a thing in the MCU – will appear in a significant role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
That’d be an interesting inclusion in that Bruce Banner would have no specific memory of Peter Parker or joining him in the battle against Thanos.

Disney and Marvel remain pinned by a licensing rights issue, one that prevents Ruffalo from starring in a standalone Hulk movie.
And we’re heard nothing of him in Avengers: Doomsday. Hulk’s power may tip the balance in that story too much. Thus, this rumor tracks as well.

Another rumor is that Ryan Gosling is ready to join the MCU. This story has been out there for years now, with the latest incarnation involving an intriguing character.
Gosling may join the cast of Avengers: Doomsday as Ghost Rider. However, I think that if Marvel wanted that, his name on one of those chairs would have caused a stir.

So, why didn’t that happen?
Marvel Miscellany
Technically, Marvel has aired a couple of hit television series this season…but only technically.
Variety just reported on the top 100 television programs of the 2024-2025 season, which ended in May.
Two Disney+ titles earned placement on the list, with one scoring much higher than the other.
Agatha All Along, which we already knew was a hit, placed 45th, which made it one of the top five non-Netflix series on streaming. That’s pretty good.
Alas, Daredevil: Born Again, which never once placed on the Nielsen Streaming charts, finished 92nd.
According to Variety, 5.8 million people watched Daredevil: Born Again while nine million viewed Agatha All Along.
Based on this info, it’s a bit surprising that Daredevil is the one currently filming its second season.
Speaking of filming or, in this case, not, Marvel just cleaned up its future release schedule. The news is grim for Marvel fans.
Three previous untitled Marvel movies, ones slotted for February 13th, 2026, November 6th, 2026, and November 5th, 2027, are no longer on the schedule.
One of them, the February date, is just plain empty now. The other two have switched to untitled Disney, not Marvel, movies.
So, the implication here is that Disney will swap in animated movies or live-action blockbusters in lieu of Marvel titles in 2026 and 2027.
That’s an unfortunate concession to Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars moving to December in 2026 and 2027.
This move will place even more pressure on Avengers: Doomsday to excel at the box office. It’s all or nothing for Marvel on this project in 2026.
