‘Blade’ Writer David S. Goyer Is “Baffled” by Marvel’s Reboot Troubles
Among the pantheon of Marvel Studios productions, there has never been a project as troubled as Blade.
Since Marvel announced that they were rebooting the popular Blade franchise, with Mahershala Ali assuming the mantle of the film’s titular Daywalker, nothing has gone right.
Over the past six years, Blade has cycled through six screenwriters, is currently searching for its third director, and is seemingly no closer to hitting theaters than when we began.

Amazingly, Wesley Snipes’s Blade appeared in the MCU before Ali ever made his debut.
‘Blade’ Trilogy Writer Doesn’t Understand Marvel’s Problem
During a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, David S. Goyer, who wrote the original Blade trilogy, weighed in on Marvel’s struggles with the reboot.
“I think Blade is a relatively simple story, it’s not complicated,” he opined.

“The promise of Blade is that it should have insane a– kicking, it should be pretty scary, might be R-rated, and it should not be complicated”.
Wesley Snipes’ Return
Discussing Snipes’ return in Deadpool & Wolverine, Goyer noted that it was a remarkable moment. Additionally, however, he wondered whether Blade’s appearance in the film may have been another admission that Marvel was having trouble launching Ali’s version of the character.
“It’s confusing if you’re trying to do another one” he said. “It may have been acknowledgment that we can’t crack it.”

As of this writing, Marvel is still forging ahead with its Blade reboot, and Ali is still attached to the project. After six years of waiting, however, it is fair to question whether we will see the Daywalker on the big screen at all.
