Mahershala Ali’s Latest ‘Blade’ Comments Do Not Inspire Confidence
As Mahershala Ali makes the rounds promoting Jurassic World Rebirth, which is in theaters now, the actor has been bombarded with questions surrounding his long-languishing Blade reboot.
Originally announced in 2019, Marvel’s Blade film sounded like a surefire hit. Reigniting a popular but dormant franchise, the movie was to star Mahershala Ali, who was coming off his triumphant turn in The Green Book.
Since Blade was announced, however, production on the film has been an abject disaster. Over the last five years, the film has been delayed three times, undergone six different screenwriters, and is currently seeking its third director.

Now, six years since the film was announced, we are seemingly no closer to Blade hitting theaters than we were when the movie was announced.
Marvel Has Remained Committed to the Project
Despite the disastrous production, both Kevin Feige and Ali have made statements indicating that they were committed to the project.
“We love the character, we love Mahershala’s version of him,” Feige said last November. “And rest assured: whenever we change direction with a project, or are still trying to figure out how it fits into our schedule, we let the public know. You’re up to date on what’s going on. But I can tell you that the character will be coming to the MCU.”

Last month, Ali weighed in, hinting that he was still excited.
“Call Marvel,” he said. “I’m ready. Let them know I’m ready.”
Ali Avoids the ‘Blade’ Question
Unfortunately, since Blade was removed from the 2025 release calendar, updates on the film have been scarce.

Now, Ali has weighed in again, and his latest comments don’t inspire hope.
Answering a round of rapid-fire questions for Vogue, Ali’s costar, Jonathan Bailey, asked the actor and Scarlett Johansson how many MCU movies they had been in.
“Leave me out of it,” Ali quipped. “That’s a Scarlett question.”

The answer to Bailey’s question is that Johansson has been in 10 MCU films, while Ali was briefly heard during a post-credit scene in Eternals.
Based on Ali’s response, it doesn’t sound like we will see Blade anytime soon in the MCU.
