Kevin Feige Addresses the Future of the Eternals and Moon Knight
In the aftermath of Avengers: Endgame, the Marvel Cinematic Universe expanded in unique and unexpected ways. As Marvel began to develop television shows, the studio utilized the medium to introduce new heroes, including Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, and She-Hulk. On the big screen, the MCU shifted away from the Avengers-centric storyline that had come to dominate the franchise and told desperate stories starring Shang-Chi and the Eternals.
In the real world, the latest slate of Marvel films was released against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic. For many in Hollywood, we had entered a brave new world.

Eventually, however, it became clear that Marvel had stretched itself too thin. The quality of content released by the studio began to suffer, and audiences stopped showing up in droves at theaters. It was clear that something needed to change.
Marvel’s Pivot
Examining the troubles of its golden goose, Disney decided that Marvel needed to slow down its output. The studio would also choose to overhaul its television production, creating a clear delineation between its big-screen and Disney+ releases.

Then came Kevin Feige’s declaration that the MCU would be “reset” following the events of Avengers: Endgame. While the decision made sense, it also left fans wondering about their favorite heroes, especially those they had not heard from in years.
Now, Feige has weighed in. Kind of.
Feige’s Comments
During a recent press conference, Feige was asked if characters such as The Eternals or Moon Knight would reappear in the MCU.

While Feige declined to comment on specific heroes, he did say that, generally speaking, the plan is for post-Endgame characters to return.
“I don’t know that it’s any of the specific ones you just named, but yes, that is part of the plan: Characters we’ve introduced post-‘Endgame’ will pop up again in some of the upcoming movies and beyond. The fun of the comics is anyone popping up anywhere.”
As illustrated by Tim Blake Nelson and Liv Tyler’s return in Captain America: Brave New World after a 17-year absence, the door is seemingly open for all Marvel characters to return. At this time, however, it is hard to see a place where the Eternals make sense. Perhaps, however, Secret Wars is the answer to everything.

For now, we will just have to wait and see.
