Another ‘X-Men’ Star Has Confirmed They Will NOT Appear in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

On March 26, 2025, the world’s eyes were glued to Marvel Studios’ highly anticipated livestream, which gradually unveiled the cast of Avengers: Doomsday.

In the weeks leading up to the event, speculation ran wild as fans tried to guess which heroes would assemble for the next Avengers film. Kevin Feige had already confirmed that Captain America, the Fantastic Four, and the Thunderbolts would appear, but the rest of the lineup remained tightly under wraps.

Over the course of a six-and-a-half-hour reveal, Marvel confirmed that several familiar faces—including Ant-Man, Black Panther, Thor, Loki, Shang-Chi, and Namor—would be returning. Yet, the biggest shock came with the announcement that the Fox-era X-Men will officially make their MCU debut in Doomsday.

Among the returning mutants will be Beast (Kelsey Grammer), Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart), Magneto (Ian McKellen), Nightcrawler (Alan Cumming), Mystique (Rebecca Romijn), and Cyclops (James Marsden).

What About Jean Grey?

Since the Doomsday cast announcement, fans have speculated about the status of Famke Janssen’s Jean Grey.

The central character in the original Fox X-Men trilogy, Janssen last reprised her role as Jean Grey in 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Jannsen Has Heard Nothing From Marvel

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Janssen was asked about potentially reprising her role in the upcoming Marvel multiverse adventure.

“Every time I do an interview, it’s mentioned,” she began “It’s interesting. I didn’t realize that was such a big part. Every interview I do, that will come up. Of everything I say, that is going to be the only thing that’s gonna be printed.”

Unfortunately, the actress also revealed that Marvel “never, ever” asked her to return.

So, while it remains to be seen what Marvel’s plans are for the X-Men in Avengers: Doomsday, we can now cross one mutant off the list.
