Mia Goth Gives a Disappointing ‘Blade’ Update
In the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), no project has ever gone quite as poorly as Blade.
When the film was initially announced in 2019, it seemed like a sure-hire hit. At the time, Marvel was coming off its historic success with Avengers: Endgame, and Mahershala Ali, who was tapped to play the titular Daywalker, had just starred in The Green Book.

Add in the fact that Blade had already proven to be a viable box office franchise, and it seemed like Marvel had perfected the recipe for success.
Production Has Been a Disaster
Over the last six years, however, Blade’s development has imploded. During this period, the film has been delayed three times, undergone six different screenwriters, and is currently seeking its third director.

We subsequently learned that Marvel scrapped plans to set the film in the 1920s, despite having built sets, loaned the Blade costumes to Ryan Coogler for Sinners, and eventually settled on a modern-day story.
Marvel Remains Committed to the Project
Despite the numerous setbacks, both Kevin Feige and Marheshala Ali have remained dedicated to the project.

“We didn’t want to simply just put a leather outfit on him and have him start killing vampires. It had to be unique,” Feige explained. “It fell into the time when we started pulling back and saying, ‘Only accept insanely great.’ And it wasn’t ‘insanely great’ at the time,” Feige said earlier this year.
“We didn’t feel like, as we often do, you can have a good script and make it a great script through production. We didn’t feel confident that we could do that on ‘Blade,’ and we didn’t want to do that to Mahershala and didn’t want to do that to you.”

While it seems that Blade is still an active project at Marvel, updates on the film have been few and far between since it was pulled from the studio’s release calendar.

Now, however, one of Ali’s co-stars has opened up about the film’s current status.
MIa Goth’s Update
During a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Mia Goth was asked about the status of Blade.

The actress, who has long been signed on to co-star in the film, gave a somewhat disappointing update.
“I don’t know what’s going on with that,” Goth revealed on the new Happy Sad Confused. “I think that they want to make it, and it’s such an important film for them, that they’re taking their time with it. And I really don’t have any information (on the delay). I don’t know why it’s taken the time that it has, but we will see.”

Discussing Marvel’s initial plans for Blade, Goth revealed she had flown to Atlanta to begin work on the film at one point.
“I flew to Atlanta, and we did a chemistry test between Mahershala and I, and we did a costume fitting and a wig fitting, and I was very excited in the direction that it was going. It was very cool, and Mahershala had such an interesting take on it. He was great. And then it just, you know, unraveled from there, unfortunately.”
The Takeaway
While Goth’s comments do not inspire confidence that we will see Blade hit theaters anytime soon, there is a sliver of hope for Marvel fans.

Based on her Happy Sad Confused appearance, it sounds like Goth is still attached to the project and holding out hope that it will come to fruition.
However, until we find out that filming on Blade is once again underway, it is probably best to write the film off.

Nevertheless, hope springs eternal.
