Marvel’s Avengers Assembly: The Sinister Substitute Coming in April
The book is a follow-up to Marvel’s Avengers Assembly: Orientation.
Class is back in session. BUT THIS TIME A SUBSTITUTE IS IN CHARGE. Marvel’s Avengers Assembly: The Sinister Substitute is on its way in April 2021 from Preeti Chhibber (writer) and James Lancett (illustrator). The illustrated novel will follow Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel), Doreen Green (Squirrel Girl), and Miles Morales (Spider-Man) as they return to Avengers Institute for another semester of school.
Please read on for more details.
Marvel’s Avengers Assembly: The Sinister Substitute
In the first book, Marvel’s Avengers Assembly: Orientation, which was told from Ms. Marvel’s perspective, readers were introduced to the world of Avengers Institute. In Marvel’s Avengers Assembly: The Sinister Substitute, Squirrel Girl gets a chance to take the reins of the story.
In the announcement on Marvel.com, Chhibber gave readers some hints of what they can expect from Marvel’s Avengers Assembly: The Sinister Substitute… and it looks like it’s some freshly roasted nut puns!
The story sees Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel) realizing that she needs to hire more teachers at the Avengers Institute – fortunately, the extremely charming Rocket and Groot have some space in their schedule! Plus, Squirrel Girl’s best friend, Nancy Whitehead, is especially excited about a particular new member of the faculty: Thor!
But with a title like The Sinister Substitute, is there someone with less than scholastic goals teaching at the school?
The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl + More Tippy Toe
Also in the announcement, Chhibber shouts out the 2015 The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl series, which was written by Ryan North, illustrated by Erica Henderson and Derek Charm, Rico Renzi, Clayton Cowes, et al. The comic is fall on the floor funny, and you can read the entire run on Marvel Unlimited.
And if you still haven’t gotten enough Squirrel Girl after that, you can consider a previous prose book starring Squirrel Girl: The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl: Squirrel Meets World by Shannon Hale and Dean Hale. It’s a great book to read to kids! (speaking from experience)
Marvel’s Avengers Assembly: The Sinister Substitute will be available at your local bookstore on April 6th, 2021. Will you be enrolling with Squirrel Girl, Ms. Marvel, and Spider-Man? Let us know in the comment section!
